I have just been to see the doctor about my weight and he prescribed me orlistat which i will start using tomorrow. Can anyone give me some starter advice on what to eat, what not to eat (and drink), etc.
Welcome to the gang.
the main thing to remember on these tablets is that you MUST keep within the guide lines for FULL fat intake in anyone day/meal.
You must not exceed 30g of fat a day and never more than 15g in one meal or you are more than likely get the side effects.
Spreads for bread/bagels etc can hold quite a bit of fat so see if you can get yourself some lighter than light spread (purple pack).
Make sure you know how much fat is contained in the foods you are going to consume. Most nutrition facts on the packaging has per portion/slice on them so it's quite easy to work out.
My day usually starts with a bowl of cereal, usually shreddies mixed with Special K and some nuts and raisins sprinkled on top.
Then for lunch I will have a bagel with WW cheese spread/tuna carrots, apple, grapes and Walkers Baked crisps.
Then possibly a Go Ahead snack bar.
Tea can be anything from a prepared from scratch low fat meal or a packet of flavoured rice and 2 slices of bread, to large jacket potato and beans, or salad.
With no fat yoghurt and fruit.
Remember if you are having a cooked meal with potato dish your mash up before you put the butter and milk in for anyone else you are dishing up for. Sweet potato is yummy and doesn't need butter or milk added.
If I have been to lazy to think in advance what I can have for tea but know what the other member of the household are having I usually end up having just the veg and potato.
WW's do some really yummy puddings which I will occasionally have.
I also have dried fruit on hand for munching throughout the day if required,
just had another thought.
When buying foods check the Full fat content and try and stick to things that are 5g's or under per 100g's.
on top of what suza has said:
read posts on the forum, have a good dig thru theres lots of advice and experiences shared on here
drink plenty of water
although the tablets work on fat be mindful of the amount of calories you're consuming, its easy to pick lowfat options that are high in calories and although you will not get side effects you will not loose weight as effectively
start or 'up' your exercise regieme as exercise along with this controlled diet will show best effects in terms of inch and lb loss
don't be obsessed with weighing yourself as we as humans fluctuate in weight regularly, once a week is enough!
measure yourself with a tapemeasure if you want to see the inch loss, obviously you will notice as your clothes become baggy but some people enjoy seeing the number of inches lost like they do lbs!!
GOOD LUCK
