:D Hi All
My name is Vick, i have started Orlistat today (17 oct 08) this is my first time!!! My interests are on my profile but basically i make handmade wedding stationery and other cards and gifts, i am a reiki master and my hubby is a reiki master, teacher and hypno therapist. I have my own craft website and forum and this occupies my mind as i cannot exercise and rarely leave my house as i am severely disabled. My husband and I joined SW 8 weeks ago and he has lost a stone and a half in that time i have lost 5lbs, so i went to my docs today to ask if she could help me along the way as well as me educating myself at SW and following their eating plan, she said that there are a few slimming pills out at them moment, but because of my other many medications Orlistat is the only one i can take! I am hoping for a 3lb loss on average a week, another woman at SW has been there 2 weeks and on the first week she lost 7lbs and the second week she lost 11lbs!!!!! I know...........lol amazing!!! anyway she said she was taking some tabs from her doc but i dont know which ones so i will ask her at SW on monday night.
Am i being too ambitious hoping for 3lb loss a week???? what has everyone else done on here, i value your opinions and expereinces, thats why i joined the chat

I have been taking orlisat for many weeks now, but only found that I had a true weight loss when I joined SW. I have been going for 5 weeks now and have lost 1 stone and 5 pounds. The plan is so easy, and I find that it's easier to follow that plan rather than having to work out your fat content for each meal. I still have chocolate and crisps every day through my syns, and have a cheat day every Wednesday when I get weighed. I usually go out for a meal with my Husband those days. Don't be disheartened though if you don't lose 3 lbs every week, as long as it's a loss you should be happy x Good luck x
Hi Vick
I have been on them since around june. My doctor told me to take the orlistat only when i have eaten fat . In other words its best to follow a diet such as slimming world which is low fat as the side effects arnt bad.
On the occasions i have eaten fat and thought i can take the tablets and my body wont absorb the fat so ill be ok --- BIG mistake. The orange oil you read about on here is awful lol. Its enough to put you off eating fat while taking orlistat.
I have lost almost a stone now.
I also took them last year and lost 1 1/2 stone and got pregnant which was great as i have polycystic overies so thought i never could have kids.
Word of warning If you have something planned and are out all day , dont eat fat the day before and take the orlistat as it has its consequences !!
Good luck hope you do great on them.

Hi Vick,
I also started taking Orlistat on the 17th and this is my first time also.
I went to see the Nurse Practioner at my GP surgery after I came back from my hols as I was not losing weight. Before I went away I was doing 4-6 hours a week at the gym (all classes) and had changed my diet but was unable to lose half a stone. Nurse took bloods and tested my thyroids, kidneys and liver, all of which came back normal. We discussed Orlistat and I was advised that I needed to lose 2.5 kgs over 4 weeks before it could be prescribed, this didn't help me feel any better as I struggled to lose the weight before hand. Here I am though 4 weeks later and have lost 3 kilos (thanks to the terrbile cold and sore throat that killed my appetite) and now on Orlistat.
I have taken the tablets with every meal since I got them on Friday morning and have yet to experience any side effects that have been discussed here. For that last 4/5 months I have eaten a relatively low fat diet and had the occassional treat/drinl and plan on taking each day as it comes.
I am planning on going back to the gym this week so fingers crossed.
Hope it goes well for you.
