Hi, I was diagnosed last week and am struggling with ideas for meals. I have some reading material which tells me the basics of what to eat and what to avoid but turning that into meal ideas is proving tricky. I would be delighted if you could share some of your meals. Thanking you in advance.
hi chris my sister has diabetes and meals are simpler than they sound you just need to know what you can and cant have. for starters drink plenty of water this will help clear your body and keep sugar levels stable.sadly you do need to be very careful with fruit its good for you but its high in sugar so avoid fruit juices. also avoid anything sugary like chocolate sweets and cakes. you should try a site i love called wikihow just search something like what meals can a diabetic have. i cant give you the link it wont allow it but its the name followed by .com this should give you better answers than i can. just be sure to check sugars low or high and you can go into a diabetic coma and they can be very dangerous.
Thank you for your reply and your tips. I will give the website a look now
your welcome and good luck the site is very good it may not give you answers you like i know it hasnt for me but any good answers better than none
Read "why We Get Fat: And What To Do About It" by Gary Taubes. It explains Type II
Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome and even indicates that Type II can be managed by diet. It is the Readers Digest version of "Good Calories, Bad Calories". These are both medical research books. If you only want medical information, start at chapter 9 in Why We Get Fat.
David is correct about fruit! Why explains that the fructose is even worse that sugar.
I would advise sugar free meals and make cakes and biscuits with sugar alternatives eg candarel. Best wishes Sue and RA
good idea sue ive heard that splendas good it tastes like sugar but dont have the affects. i havent tried it myself though.
