newly diagnosed with glaucoma

I am 34 and newly diagnosed I thought I was quite young for this and it has come as s complete shock to me. Has anyone got any advice or experience of glaucoma in their thirties?

No sorry Sam, I was in my late fifties, and my uncle had had it. I started with high eye pressures and it's not really progessed, although my pressures rose a couple of months ago and I now have drops 3 times a day (for life). I suppose it can start at any age, it's because the fluid behind the eye doesn't drain properly due to the tiny chanels getting blocked slightly. I started with drops to improve the drainage, now I'm on drops to stop the production of the fluid so much. If the pressures haven't damaged your optic nerve then it's called stable glaucoma. I wish you the best. Joan (I'm 69 now and mine is still stable).

hi

I was in my early forties, and like king93 it started off as 'high pressure'.

if they have put youon eye drops then please do use them.

i think that there is a glaucoma support group online which may have some useful information for you.

best wishes

Hi there. Im 27 and I have signs for glaucoma, so I have to go every year instead of 2 to keep track of it, well that is what my dr rather wants to do. He said the fact that Im so young is actually a good thing as they can manage it better and the damage control is easier. Right now it is just keeping track of it till it is necessary to go see a specialist, which prob would be next year.
