Newly diagnosed with gout

i have had gout for 4 weeks and can't clear it (big toe) can anybody help me I am in a lot of pain. I have tried to drink 2 litres of water a day and tried to eat healthier but it is still there. I don't know how to reduce my uric acid levels ??? (33 yr old) is this a young age

If I get an out break I find it best to take medication to reduce the inflammation, but mostly I have found that I can keep pain free with a good diet. A naturopath can help with this they will give a lot diet related advice.

Essentially I avoid foods with high levels of purines (or are known increase inflammation) …. wine, beer, sardines, shellfish, red meat, spinach, lentils, tomatoes acid foods. And increase consumption of anti inflammatory foods like ginger (ginger tea made with fresh ginger is great), turmeric, oats (porridge for breakfast great way to start the day) and celery.

Drinking water is good as it will help keep you system clean, but you do need to identify the "good" and "bad" foods that will affect this condition. A reduction in processed foods and stimulants like caffeine will also help.

you need to see your GP, trying to treat gout without drugs is tricky to say the least

they should prescribe Colchicine for the attack, plus perhaps an anti-inflammatory drug. Then for on-going treatment Febuxostat, Allopurinol or Sulphinpyrazone

I have had just two outbreaks since being diagnosed seven years ago managing to keep things under control largely with diet. Occassionally if I feel signs of inflammation I will take an anti inflammatory drug for one, maybe two days and pay more attention to my diet. Clearly things vary from person to person and other life style factors, but for some there a lot can be done without resorting taking drugs on a daily basis. Do some research or find a naturopath that can offer advise before submitting & taking medication for the rest of your life, you are very young and there is no such thing as a drug without a side effect.

It's not young I've had it since I was about 24 still not found anything hat helps sorry throb throb I'm on week 4 too and it's now in my ankle more limping ahead! Good luck
