I have suffered with stomach problems for the last 6 years.Had my gall bladder removed in 2004 as it wasnt functioning properly. Then to my horror started to have symptoms the same again after about 6 months.Visited my gp who perscribed omeprazole, very shortly after fell pregnant and symptons subsided but then started having unexplained bouts of diarrohea. After the birth of my child i remained pain free until about six months ago i started having acid and reflux problems which i never treated or bothered to visit my gp for until one day i was doubled over in pain in a cold sweat and had to be taken to hospital by a paramedic when i arrived at hospital my blood pressure was very low which explained my feeling faint they gave me gaviscon and pain killers and after about a hour the pain went.I was discharged and told to visit my gp for some anti acids. After numerous blood tests which have all come back negative my doctor has diagnosed me with ibs.He has perscribed me 2 omeperazole a day for acid and mebeverine for stomach cramps which are both not making any difference whats so ever.I was wondering if anyone else could relate to this and share any off their experiences with me.
im 47 years old and suffered with a hiatus hernia since i was in my 20s, i had all the common problems like acid reflux, chest pains ,back pains etc but 3 years ago it reached its peak after i had eaten one night ,the chest pain was so severe i passed out and ended up in A+E, I explained to the doc that these pains were getting worse each day and he gave me a painkiller and sent me home, things just got worse and even a drink of water would start the pain chain but each time i went to my doc he said it was nothing to worry about and sent me to a specialist in that field, In the next 18 months i had tubes shoved up and into every cavity in my body but all results were normal { or so they said }Another meal on another night sent me screaming around the house throwing myself against anything that was available in a way of getting rid of the pains till my partner had enough and called an ambulance, At the hospital i was told that my hernia was not the problem as no way would it cause these such severe pains but as it had gone on so long it was agreed that the next morning i would be sent down for exploritory surgery{in a bid to shut me up }.As i woke 5 hours after going down for a 35 minute op and found my surgeon standing at the bottom of my bed,i told him i felt better than i had in months and his reply was YES you will now that we have sewn your stomach back down into your abdomen, The pains i had were because my whole stomach had pushed its way through my diaphram twisted itself over and around and was crushing my heart and lungs, i was not suppossed to eat solids for 4 days but was on the ole jelly and ice cream that night, porridge in the morning and they sent me home, Yeah i thought thats sorted that Well 3 years on my acid levels are real high, chest pains come and go and i also have IBS. My bed head is up on 2 bricks so i dont lay flat,i take nexium from the docs and gulp gaviscon by the bucket load, dont eat anything after 6pm that helps the hernia. As for the IBS i find the dark brown sugar put into meals or some bran sprinkled onto foods helps reglated the bowels without upsetting the hernia.
How sad that after all you went through you still have symptoms. My GP has mentioned that i too could have a Hiatius Hernia.Did you have any specific tests to confirm this i have not had any xrays scans etc for six years and have been diagnosed with IBS on the basis of all my blood tests coming back negative.
Hi There
My Hiatus hernia was confirmed about 18 months previous to my op by me having a Gastroscopy but at that time i was told i had a large hernia which could be controlled by diet and meds, i also had a barium swallow which showed some abnormality within the digestive system. As the 18 months went on they did tests for every other ailment stating that the hernia alone could not be the cause of the severe chest pains, they honestly made me feel like i was wasting their time and when i asked for another gastroscopy they refused saying it would only show what it showed before { how wrong were they }, Since my op i have had several bariums and xrays which show my stomach to still be down within my abdomen but the high acid levels are unexplainable, since everything is where it should be. i went back to the doctors with stomach cramps, feeling sick after eating, urgency to open my bowels early morning at least 3 times , constipated sometimes and dirohea others and stomach just feeling uncomfortable most of the time-bloated and tired is the norm for me.
