Newly Dx Diaberic and found a acute pancreatitis

hi everyone,

my husband was recently dx with DM and acute pancreatitis. We are in the hospital getting treatment. I was just wondering those of you who had to suffer with this issue, did you have coughing up of mucus sometime bloody colored or brownish?  When it began and we came to er , he was vomiting terribly! Now he’s not, he’s just still coughing up that yucky phlegm a d it’s just yucky looking! I was just trying to see if others did too.  Sitting here in a hospital all you can do is sit andthinks of things, at least  I do lol

thank yu for any any help or answers!

Hello cjanke, please check out pancreatitis survivors on Facebook u have more people on that site that can help u with ur questions.

I do know that when my husband has a pancreatitis attack n he is throwing up a lot he will have Brown vomit Dr said it was blood (nothing to worry about) from the hard vomiting and he will say his throat is soar from the hard throwing up.

Hope it helps n please go on Facebook n find a site to go on it's been so helpful for me , just to have someone to talk to quicker.

Good luck to u n ur husband!

Oh thank you so much for your reply!  I will look for that Facebook page!  This is the absolute sickest I’ve seen husband since we met when I brought him to the ER! Finding out he’s a Diaberic prob doesn’t help with this pancreatiti, they are trying to keep his levels at a good range!  We’ve been inpatient for 2nfull days as of today!  How did they treat your husband for going home?

Sorry I wanted to ask, you mentioned your husband had the yucky bloody brown vomit ,  I was curious how long did he deal with that??  My husband is not vomiting per say, he’s coughing like he’s got mucus like with a cold but he’s still got that tinted mucus junk! Which increases it seems when he drinks anything.   Also I’ve tried finding the Facebook pages and I think I sent a join request to both.  🤗

For now he only has chronic pancreatitis... thank God!

But we have had r fair share of hospital visits n stays.... last year was the worst with almost the full year in the hospital... smh

Now, I have learned about his care n this illness n if I don't know I get corrected by similar sufferers on Facebook, so u end up learning a lot!

He has a pain pump for the pain n we r working still on dosage. Have u considered an insulin pump? We also, try to find competent, good Dr's! We have a great PCP that understands his needs, he also admitts him in the hospital when needed. We just found a good pain Dr that we r referred to by our old pain Dr. And now we r in search of a good GI That will set tests n proper care for CP in motion.

The only way to manage with this illness is finding good Dr that have ur back!

Oh wow! Not fun!  My husbands is acute.  How long did your husband deal with the nausea and vomiting or spitting up of junk? Not so much vomiting now for him.  Just nausea and coughing up yuck!  They are also working to get his blood sugar leveled out it’s way down before we came in but fluctuates some.   I really appreciate you taking time to reply to me,  if there’s a easier way for us to y’all that would be awesome, let me know!  Maybe Facebook?   I’m Chrisitne Janke on there if you’re interested.

With pancreatitis I have read on Facebook that some have it often. My husband has good n bad days since flair ups last for different times.

What's the cause of his pancreatitis? Is the diabetes from the pancreatitis?

Hi I got acute pancreatitis last year I didn't cough any mucus or blood up when my pancreas start I'm always being sick feeling dizzy then the pains come really bad they still haven't found out what's causing it but hope he's better soon

Hi Christine, sorry to hear that your husband came down with Pancreatitis. It is one of the most painful diagnosis one can get is my belief. I bore 5 children and that was a breeze compared to what I endured before and after arriving at the hospital with severe pain in the middle of my chest and going around to my back and I was vomiting that stuff up that you described as well. I vomited like that until it became finally a green froth and that is when they started administering Iv Fluids and Meds for the pain. I will tell you, he will need to stick to a real easy diet for a while, it took me a good 3 months and easing back into solids after a month of liquid nutrition. I couldnt keep anything down and if I tried to eat anything solid, the pain came back along with the nausea and vomiting so dont expect him to come out of this too fast because he wont, sorry to say Just make sure he gets plenty of rest and help if needed. I had no one to help me when I got this and oh my, it was awful. In any case, nah, dont worry bout what hes passing and vomiting, its normal with this and will pass in a few days.

I have some dark colored phlegm with cough, but I do have asthma also. Not sure why the colored mucus. Good luck with the treatment
