Hiya Guys....
Still very new on here, I guess you have had many posts regarding this..
I’m getting real strong pains down both legs, but mainly down the left during the night. I was told in Nov 2012 had severe arthritis in right hip and not so good in left, been ongoing since then....Many visits to physiotherapist and trips to doc’s etc....Only 51yr old, they say it’s way to young for THR yet, so guess hanging in for now, just wanted to ask if anyone had tips advice on night pains etc...
Many thanks in advance for any help / advice...
PJ
PS..Great forum I found here...Very friendly too...
Im guessing you haven't hsf surgery. Im only 56 just had a thr. I had to beg for a referral. Keep pushing. Im in Australia and i was told oh youre too young. The govt only allocates 2 hips per person. If you have it done now you might need 3 within your lifetime. I was in agony at night. Aching ..sharp pains... i took panadine forte every night
I always use a pillow between my legs at night. I'm sure you've already tried that. I sometimes use a hot water bottle to soothe the pains a little and two strong painkillers before bed. If you need a THR you need a THR, age has nothing to do with it. Don't let them fob you off with that one.
My friend is having a hip replacement at 43 . He is in constant pain and it must be done . Lots of people in their 50s have it done , I am 6 weeks post mine and I am 59 and life is now good so keep, asking
Hi, I'm 5 weeks post LTHR and I found the referred pain kept me awake at night....you're not too young (I'm 47), it's the symptoms that should dictate your need, ask for referral. My decision to go ahead was based on my consultant explaining to me that no amount of physio could help, it required surgery. Best wishes.
Have you trid putting a pillow under your knees? I found this helped before I had my op and even afterwards too. Hope this helps Love Gillxx
Hi PJ
So sorry to hear about your pain ... there are a lot of tips given already, but the main thing is that it will not get better - it might give some relief for a little time - do you take pain medication?
please ask your doctor for a referral to see an orthopedic surgeon - I mean, you were diagnosed with severe OA in 2012 !!!! and the not-so-good left now probably is the same as your right .
Age has nothing to do with the diagnosis ...
big warm hug
renee
P.S. I know -- it is like having a supportive, understanding and loving family -
Hi, PJ
I used to get terrible cramps and pains in my legs. I fought with my surgeon for two years to give me the surgery. I finally got approved in July and had my surgery on July 31st. I just turned 49, 3 weeks ago, dr said I was too young. If you are in severe pain, if it's affecting your quality of life, keep up on the doctors. As for the pain I think it's from compensating for the reduced flexibility and pain.
I havent had surgery tho i am in consultation with a surgeon. I am 53 and have been told the potential risks of needin revisions if i have the op and he has no problem operating if necessary.
Like you i get pain in groin and down front of thigh...as i sit typing this its driving me bonkers as i just finished work.
In bed i have been used to a pillow between my knees if on side or under knees if on back. However now the pain wskes me and it stops me lying on affected hip (used to be favoured side).
Wish you well with your surgeon and finding some comfort assp xx
I was 37 for my first THR and just turned 42 the day before my second THR. I hate to say this but the pain only gets worse & nighttime is always more heightened because you have no distractions. If the THR is inevitable I would push for it to be done as soon as possible. The relief is worth it!
51 years old is very young to have your life so badly affected by pain you're posting on this forum.
I had a knee replacement at 49 because I didn't want to spend my good years in pain so I could have a nice shiny new knee but less energy to use it. When you're ready you could ask for a second opinion or beg for a replacement. Physio doesn't fix loss of cartilage.
Meantime pillows, warm packs and strong pain killers can make life a lot more tolerable.
My dear I had thr on my 33 bc my pain was unbearable and controled I had to think three times be fore I got out home now am 4 months post op feeling good walking with out pain
Hope you will be fine
Big hug dear
