No alternative pain relief?

Hi all,

Been a follower of this page for quite a while now. I was taking 8× 30/500 co-codamol for 6 years. I went cold turkey about 6 months ago and haven't touched them since. They were prescribed for permanent nerve damage in my knee after a nasty fall. I am learning now, that they seemed to be the only thing that took the edge off the pain. I've since had patches, injections, diclofenac and a knee brace. I can no longer attend physio as the pain is just too much now. My doctor has told me that apart from co-codamol, there's nothing else he can give me. Specialists can't help either as it's nerve damage and apparently the structure of my knee isn't overly worrying them. Does anyone know of any other pain relief? I'm willing to give anything a try. I'd just like to have something to go back to my doctor with. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Keep up the good fight all. Many thanks.

I am sorry to hear this.

Some people benefit from Lyrica, Neurontin but some do not.

Has surgery, physio. acupuncture, Bowens technique  been suggested to you for the damage to the nerve? Hope you do not mind my asking.

Hi Thommo

Lyrica is commonky prescribed for nerve pain but PLEASE google side effects. I have used it in the past and experienced muscle spasms amongst other embarrassing side effects. Find a physio that does dry needling, sometimes it can be tightness in surrounding muscles that compounds the pain you suffer. I have it done regularly for sciatica and nerve pain in my arms from botched carpal tunnel and ulnar nerve release surgeries, I find it quite effective. Muscle tightness is usually caused by spasms where the muscles are trying to protect the injury which in turn causes restrictions on the nerves.
