Dear Eugene, You've got it rough and I'm sorry you don't seem to be able to get the information you want. Has this happened because of an infection in the joint replacement?

It sounds as if he suspects a low grade infection that is a bug which normally doesn't give problems but has taken up residence in the interface between your prosthesis and the host bone.  Because of the way the body reacts to foreign material it is very difficult to get a decent concentration of antibiotics to that area - one reason why they often use antibiotic loaded cement.  It also means that the bodies own defences don't work as well there as in the rest of the body.  One way this is treated is to remove the prosthesis for a few months, try to find out the right antibiotics and to hope to clear the infection.

I might be wrong but certainly this is one reason for the treatment you describe.  There was a girl in hospital with me who was undergoing bone grafting and they left her without a load bearing joint to allow the graft to settle in. So another reason could be that you have lost a lot of bone and they want to build it up again.  She was wheelchair bound but seemed fairly cheerful about her prospects.

Ask your surgeon for more details, after all 'informed consent' means what it says on the tin.

Good luck and I hope they sort out whatever has not worked for you.

Don't know what to tell u..except good luck and be positive

Holiday, i am so sorry to hear of UR circumstance.. Any number of cases end up with unknowns. I hope u are able to obtain more evaluations from experienced physicians.

I think this is beyond my scope of medical understanding... I could make a lot of assumptions. There are a lot of unanswered questions. Need more infor to research UR case. is there any way u could ask for another opinion? Actually two or more specialist THR docs would generally be of better assistance for evaluations of UR case.

Holidays,

how are u doin?

i have been worried considering all that u have been thru with the one hip ..

YIKES what a nightmare. I thought I had issues waitng for revision on a mom THR .

PLZ let us know how u r . I hope u have specialize nursing care. Slap I was conserved if the whole issue started from an infection.. That's usually what issues cause the complications in UR case.

sending u many healing blessings UR way..

Hopebiggrin
