Hi all,
Back story…pre op was the 17.10.18 with the op on 22.10.18, operation was cancelled due to being extremely anaemic
so a 6 week course of iron was prescribed. Nearly 4 weeks later and still no new date. I am in agony with both hips now, i hardly leave the house unless im in dire need of something. Rang the secretary to be told that its not looking likely until the end of January at the earliest. Ive been off work since September as i just couldnt manage any longer, im a community carer. So im not a happy bunny, should have been all done and dusted now.
sorry for the long post.
I had a similar situation nearly 2 years ago.
i had my pre op assessment in the September and was told they wanted to get me done asap. was given a date in November. so like you i gave up work and cancelled a holiday.
had a letter telling me op had been cancelled due to consultants very busy operating list. they told me it would be before Christmas and they’d let me know. I Heard nothing. my GP told me to keep pestering the admissions secretary which i did. i was now told it wouldn’t be before Christmas. they could see i wasn’t happy. eventually i was admitted on 3rd January 2017. all went well and it was worth the wait.
so what I’d say to you it is keep phoning them. don’t let them forget who you are.
I remember reading your post when you had just been told you where not going to have your op because of aneamia and they put you on iron tablet’s, i am presuming that its raised enough to have it done now but that theirs no appointment available till January, have you asked if you could go on the cancellation list so you could possibly have it done sooner, people do have a tendency to cancel round Christmas.
Hang in there it will be done eventually and at least you want have a problem with being too tired after due to anemia
Hi thanks for replying. Unfortunately i wouldnt be able to go on a cancellation list due to childcare and partner having time off work, i also look after my grandson so daughter in law would need time off work too.
Hi, just phoned again now and she said it would be mid jan. Will just have to be patient .
Thats a pain, couldn’t you find anyone else to help you cover those.
If not then its a waiting game and January isn’t too far off, gives you time to get fitter, maybe you could get your GP to refer you for some hydrotherapy, its good for pain relief and building muscles to aid your post op recovery.
i would get the surgeons secretary to give a definite date
