No place like home!..

Please tell me I'm not going mad, I feel uncomfortable just waiting at the till in shops, a feeling I need to escape, I hope this feeling doesn't last forever, I only really feel comfortable at home!

Hi...I know how it feels. Somedays I just want to stay home all day. I had an anxiety attack at the check out a while ago. When I have a bad day even waiting to buy bread is bad. I just want to run. Its almost like agoraphobia. Its an uneasiness. Thankfully I don't get it all the time. Mine started about October last year. I just hope it doesn't get worse. I am still managing to work part time but some days it is a challenge. Some ladies on here have had to stop work. Its amazing how our hormones can be so powerful. Take care and know you are not alone in this x

Hi I'm the same, been like it nearly three years. Can't go anywhere without feeling anxious - don't like being around people I don't know and places I feel vulnerable. Like you im only comfortable at home. All part of this rotten journey and hopefully won't last forever, but for me im happiest at home 😉

I feel exactly the same and it would be so easy to stay at home and do nothing.

ive tried to work after surgery to remove my ovaries but surgical menopause had hit me full on and every time I attempt to work I feel awful and want to run.

I've tried every sort of alternative medicine but none seem to have helped, doc wants me to try antidepressants but I'm really reluctant.

Has anyone found anything that has helped the awful symptoms of menopause ?

Dear Janine

Thank you for your reply, i'm glad i'm not alone feeling like this, my friends dont seem to have this feeling, well one did she doesn't like being in cars too much especially if they automatically lock, i just hope it doesnt last forever xx

Thanks Lou for your reply it really helps to know i'm not alone in feeling like this x

Dear Wendy

I too had ovaries out

Oops didn't finish what I started!, I had ovaries out about a year ago, my anxiety wasn't as bad as what it is now, x

Yes that's me too. I much prefer to be at home and often decline invitations to go out. If I do go out I have to be in control of travel arrangements so I know I can come home whenever I want to. If I take my mum to the supermarket she wants to wander around for hours browsing all the shelves and have coffee in the cafe. I rush her through and say I've got coffee at home!

My daughter is getting married in August, full day and night in a country house, I'm already panicking at the thought of not being able to leave when I want to.

Any advice on anything I can take, like Calms or something?

Hi are you on any medication I've been told by consultant no hrt but not sure I can cope with night sweats no sleep and anxiety for much longer

You are certainly not alone in this feeling. I've had to stop working because of it. I only go out to the places that I have to. I rush through everything so I can get back home. I have turned down invites to most outings and when I do decide to go out, I'm anxious the whole time. I never in a million years thought I would be like this. I loved going out. Now I'm just comfortable being in the house. I really hope this does not last for years even though I have a feeling it is being as though I'm still having regular periods. This just sucks.

I am the same Maisie. I turn down coffee or lunch invitations all the time. If I go anywhere I like knowing I can leave if I have to. I had anxiety years ago and I found meditating and using lavender oil helped before I had to do anything stressful. I am trying it again as it does lower overall stress levels and the breathing is helpful when you are in a stressful situation. I have downloaded some apps onto my mobile and I am trying to practice everyday.

I'm like it all day , just took the dog out and bam the biggest hot flush . I shake all day until I get in bed . I'm on HRT and AD and they still don't help , love to you all Steff ❤

I know how you feel. I've just been for coffee and feel the same. It's such a horrible feeling of anxiety and I then dwell on it and feel I've made a complete fool of myself. I shouldn't be suffering from the menopause because I'm 59 and past it but it seems to be getting worse.I've become so isolated at home and agoraphobic.

Hi Pink I myself feel this way too in the shops or anywhere berm like good for long time and it tends to get me down, when I'm at home I feel safe o have to make appointment to go through the door just to the corner shop I which it would subside do I can get on with life bit,so horrible at this time of life just have to wait until the hormones settle down god knows when that is,have to fight each day as it comes hugs to you.

Wow, ladies, I am so sorry! I used to deal with LOADS of depression, anxiety and panic attacks! I was suicidal on a daily basis for over 20 years. At one point I was literally on enough medicine for THREE PEOPLE. They said technicall, I should be dead for what I was taking and best case I should have been in a coma that I'd never come out of. Research was done on my case (I was being see at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC USA) They said in the history of documentation in the US they could not find another case of ANYONE taking the combinations or dosages that I was taking!

But the important take away, for all of you guys, is it doesn't have to be this way. I had 5 major diagnosis'. One of which, aside from SEVERE deppression, was SEVERE post traumatic stress disorder. I'm here to tell you. God healed it. I haven't been on medicastion since 1996! Beause of another illness, (I have problems with my breathing) and because it's undiagnosed, and because I have the history that I have, I chose to continue seeing a psych doc every 3-4 months just so I could have a record maintaing my on going good mental health. Yeah, when they can't figure out what's wrong with you they want to turn it into a psych thing, especially when you already have the perfect historical set up! I feel more sorry for the doctors than I do for myself. They want to know whats wrong with me more than I do. In fact, I just spent a week in the medical ICU, Two days of which were spent with me intubated on the ventilator. I'm home now and doing better. But I saw this post and just wanted to encouraged you guys! DON;T give up! It can and will get better. You may need to get some help from the appropriate people but it can make a real difference!

Good luck guys! I sure hope you feel better soon! Just stay positive and NEVER give up!

Hi Lucas I'm like you isolated in doors have not invited anyone around for while now and I will love too all this is getting me down I just want to get on and go out and mix sometimes as you know,I got a friend just starting to feel better at last she is the same age as you she goes everywhere I think she has delt with it good I which I did but I have up all I can say I hope it goes for us all.

Hi Jamie you sound like me rush everything to get home and nothing happens to you when you get home and think what's that all about I have an important appointment soon I just think how I'm going to cope but I know deep down it's just the brain doing it to me everyday is different for me,I have no periods nearing menopause I guess been on HRT for 3 weeks and stop fairing this and that but it help with hot flashes and sleep, anyone we will emerge from this nightmare one morning .

I am so glad that there seem to be alot of ladies feeling like this - no I dont mean because it a 'good thing' at all, but because we are all experiencing it. I feel very inadequate sometimes because for me its an occassion if I go out and walk around town, have a coffee, get a bit of shopping and come home.  My son thinks I'm weird because I  dont seem to 'have any friends', or ever go out socialising, and I stopped working a few years ago because of crippling panic attacks. My sister thinks I'm really lucky that I 'dont have to work', but its not really my choice, and my family are quite a bit worse off for it.

Yes it sucks, but I keep thinking - it'll get better, I'll get better and be able to actually attend clubs I've nominally joined and contribute and get a part time job or just do voluntary work. I was offered some about six months ago, and was really pleased, then when it came to actually doing it, I just didnt have the confidence.

And this is from someone who lived and workd on the other side of the world, and travelled the world, sometimes alone. At least I've done that even if I cant do so again - but we all hope things will get better, and believing gets you half way there!

Dear Maria,

Yes it does get me down and i feel annoyed with myself, I keep comparing myself to my friends who go about their business without any worries, thank you for replying xx
