Is it normal with fibro to not get any sleep at all of a night? But I'm able to sleep of an afternoon. My hubby gives me total support but he is concerned with my sleeping a couple of hours of a day but not at night. Sleeping tabs have no effect whatsoever, I usually end up watching TV or reading.
Hi Dippy yes it is normal I have trouble every night but I do get about 4 hours once I do go I take pragabalin twice a day plus I take tramadol which helps. Speak to your gp they will be able to help my doctor would not put me on sleeping tablets. But I think we all suffer with not getting enough sleep.
Hi Dippy1 Unfortunatly for us having no sleep is all part of fibro, I can go a month or more with no sleep.its one of many things fibro throws at us.
Thanks Margaret, it has been really worrying both of us. My doc doesn't like me taking too many sleepers and neither do I. But sometimes I just have to try them. I was only diagnosed earlier this year and I'm finding it really hard to cope. Reading this forum is great though.
Gosh Kaz!!! No sleep whatsoever??? I don't think I could handle that!!! Do you find that affects your ability to do things? This fibro is really stressful.
Hi lack of sleep isnt helping with my body function, I struggle with doing things through lack of sleep and fibro restricting what I can cannot do. also it doesnt help with brain function. stress worry dont help our condition as it causes more pain. fibro is a nightmare condition to have with everything it throws at us.
Oh that is awful for you!!! Gosh and here's me complaining about a lot less than you go through. My thoughts are with you and I hope you improve some xx
Hi Dippy
yes, sleep is a big problem. It helps to try not to stress about getting very little sleep, and try and wind down or do something relaxing before bed, but it doesn't always help. Perhaps try some natural things to help sleep like warm milk before bed, it's just a case of trying things out, sometimes they help sometimes they don't.
hope it improves ☺️
Hi Dippy1,
Ihave hard time sleeping as well I really try not to nap during the day . Some night are better than others . I also have muscle relaxer to take which heps with nerves and pain. Thats what works for me
I do try to not stress about it but I don't usually succeed. When I do end up getting out of bed (because I'm disturbing my hubby) I either have a hot chocolate or a chamomile tea which does relax me but doesn't make me sleepy. I eventually go back to bed about 6am and fall asleep for 3 to 4 hours. So I am getting some sleep, just at the wrong time of the day lol. Thanks for your reply
Hi Jackie, I have some muscle relaxers here so will try them tonight. I never even thought of trying them. Thanks for the tip
Hi Dippy,
did you try them, and did they help?
The muscle relaxer? Not as yet, I'm in Australia and it's only 8.20PM here but I will do in an hour or so I will let you know how it goes.
Hi again Boqer, I took 10mg of Diazapam before bed last night. I got a fairly good nights sleep, the first in ages. The only problem is, they are very addictive so can't do that too often
I have the same insomnia for years. I can be up for days. It drove me nuts and made me feel worse. On sleep meds and anti depressants now. Since then sleep 5-6 hours a night. Better than nothin. I must turn down all lights computers tv and wear ear plugs for quiet peaceful surroundings. Listen to iPad in one ear on a timer which usually gets me off to sleep in 25 minutes.
I go to bed the same time every night take a warm relaxing bath. Never drink anything with caffeine after 6 Pm. Or eat food.
Anyway whatever works for you any type of routine of some type seems to help trains my stubborn brain. I was in a sleep study and that what worked for me.
Some people need to retrain their day/night circadian rhythm internal clock that system gets out of wac. It's what causes jet lag.
Anyway I hope you find what can help you thru. It takes time and patience. Once the door opens for better sleep I guarantee you'll feel like your on top of the world!

It's good you got some sleep, but be really careful taking them, like you say they are very addictive, and with all our other problems you don't need another. 😕
Boy, that's for sure!!! You take care
Gee, that sounds fantastic!!! I'll have a talk to my gp when I see him in 2 weeks. Thank you for all of that info
Hi Dippy
I had trouble sleeping at night due to the pain
I visited a pain clinic and she recommended duloxetine 30mg for 3 months then increasing to 60mg although this is an antideppresant it stops my legs etc being restless and makes you more relaxed
She also gave me Melatonin 2mg which is a herbal remedy to help sleep, I take these at 9pm then I take 2 30mg solpadol as I go to bed with wheat bags, which then helps with the pain overnight. I have felt so much better having solid sleep
I am 72 and still work a little as a curtain maker. It helps to keep your mind focused on other things rather than Poly
I hope this helps you !
Thanks Wendy, I have taken note of these and I see my gp next friday. I will see what he says. Take care
