No sleeping on back

50 yr. old in Maryland, had THR on 6/30/15, couldn't wait to get home yesterday, but sleeping here is just as difficult. Dr. said no pillows under knees, but curious what products folks may be using to get some relief.

Hi Debbie, I too was dreading sleeping on my back but I bought a bed recliner that sits on the bed I just have 3 pillows on it, and I sleep like a dream, I got it from Amazon UK.

hope this helps, had my op on 21.5.15, I gad a double hip replacement.

Hi Debbie .. welcome to this wonderful forum where you can share, rant, rave and ask whatever you want ...

The sleeping on back seems to be different from hospital/surgeon to hospital/surgeon ... pillows, no pillows ... on side or not ...

in my case I was shown in the hospital how to put pillow between my legs and turn on my, unoperated, side ...

not sure why you were told not to put pillows under your knees though ... I lknow they want you to stretch your legs as  much as possible, but sleeping like that is a burden to the back ..

wish I could help you more ... Kaye's suggestion sounds really good - maybe you can have a look or ask home health store -

take it easy and please come back here, okay ...

be gentle with your self ..

I used a pillow in the hospital under my operated leg, was a bit of a comfort. The Physio came round and told me I was not allowed pillow under leg. Hindered circulation apparently.  So until yesterday, I have laid flat, no pillow, just long uncomfortable nights. (I am two weeks post op)

reading on here some of you use pillows between legs and roll onto the unoperated side.

so, yesterday, I put a pillow between my knees and very tentatively rolled on my good side. Bliss😍😍😍. Couldn't  stay there too long because it made my bad hip ache, but it felt like heaven!!!

i am not suggesting you do this, because I was told no too, I'm just saying what I did. I scrunched the duvet up in fron to me because I was so scarred I would roll over and dislocate the hip!!!

just be gentle with yourself and try and work out from us lot what's best for you

I put my pillow length wise under knee all the way down to foot. That way the whole leg is level and feels good.:j

Thankyou. That's what I tried and it felt oh so good to be on my side. Amazing what you take for granted

hope you're comfortable

and may sleep come your way πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€
