no strength

Im having problems with unscrewing anything with a lid on it at the min. Any one else experiencing the same problem xx

Sounds just like me !!

Sounds just like me !! Xx

Hi Kaz, I've been unable to do this for a long time 😕. I have a lid gripper which is like a soft rubber bowl which fits any size jar. It takes a lot of work out of opening jars. I got it from my local disability aides shop.

hope it helps, gentle hugs.

Ps. Where do you find your pics, they're great 😂

oh yes, my right arm is so weak and a lead weight, anything requiring strength is totally beyond me.  Some years back when I first developed arthritis in my thumb joints I looked for aids to help with opening jars and bottles etc.  I tried loads of things, some quite expensive and useless, others cheap and cheerful but still not perfect.  Finally ended up with something I got from Lakeland plastics.  It's just a thin flexible rubber disc, kind of like a large drinks coaster, that you place over the jar lid and it grips the lid better than just a  hand.  You still need a little force but nowhere near as much strength as without it.  Quick tip for anything with a metal lid (jars, bottles, whatever).  Hit the lid with something heavy, the handle end of a butter knife is what i use, all around the rim at say 1 or 2 inch intervals.  This will release the suction caused by the airtight vacuum and the lid should then be really easy to remove. hope this helps.

Hi Loxie I will look into the disc from lakelands, It never even crossed my mind about using a knife to open jars, thats a good idea. Will give that a go also. hope you have a good weekend take care gentle hugs x

back of a spoon works too by the way, anything that will release the vacuum works.  Doesn't unfortunately work on plastic caps and particularly those on drinks bottles that have a seal ring - I really struggle with those on my own, I've resorted to sawing them off with the bread knife before now - how dangerous is that hahaha.

milk tops are a nightmare for me not only unscrewing the top but trying to get the inner seal off I did resort today to just sticking a knife through the seal so I could por the milk into my drink. Ive got a apple sauce jar to open will have ago later with a spoon. Thats an excellent idea good thinking.I dont think I will use a bread knife knowing my luck at the miniute Id end up cutting my self and ending up in A&E .

Hi. Yes I struggle with my left hand. Find it hard to grip anything, even pegs when hanging out washing. Frustrating x

Its my right hand with me I struggle with pegs and getting the washing on the line. Im forever dropping the washing then trying to open the pegs whilst holding the washing. it takes me ages to get the washing out.on the line. I agree very frustratingrolleyes x

I first have trouble gripping the item, then when it comes to unscrewing the lid total nightmare just cant unscrew it. You can get something to help you either from lakeland or a disability shop. so will see what I can find. flaming fibro x

Curious, before I was diagnosed with Fibro , I went to the neurologist for my hands . He said that I have carpal tunnel in my right hand , but symptoms in both hands. He was the one who referred me to the RA., as he noticed a red flag on the lab report. The nurologist is suppose to do test on left hand and surgery on Right hand when I am out of pain.

I first have to grip the item which is a nightmare in itself, as I keep dropping things which has resulted in breakages. if I do finally manage toget a grip I then have trouble with the unscrewing of itrolleyes lake land and disability shops have something that you can use for lids so going to take alook and get something. x

I first have trouble gripping the item then its the unscrewing, doesnt matter what sort of lid it is. milk bleech jam jar coffee lid, I get really frustrated and angry with my self.I will take alook in my local disability shop also lakeland has been mentioned also to try.gentle hugs
