I would like to know if anyone can recomend a med that will help me deal with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. The only drugs that are effective for me are the benzodiazapines. Trouble is Dr. will not prescribe controled substance for fear of dependance. It's the best defence but not available and I am at witts end. There must be something out there that will be as effective as say lorazapam that my Dr. will prescribe. I have tried just about every SSRI, SNRI, tricyclic etc. with little to no positive results.
If SSRI and tricyclics were not working for you, the next logical step would be to try an irreversible MAO inhibitor - e.g. Nardil (phenelzine). These drugs may be prescribed only by a psychiatric consultant (at least in UK), but in the long-term they are a much better option than benzodiazepines.
Buspar. And therapy. No pill will cure you. Calm it down a bit,, but no cures available yet.
I was diagnosed of general anxiety in February I had it so severe.. I'm on fluoxetine it has made wonders for me I can go out I still feel a tiny anxious hit only 40% out of 100% but it's made me feel alive I'm on week 8 with it only on 2.5ml also I'm on the solution not the tabs
Hi james my gp has put me on Valdoxan Agomelatine 25mg they are non depenant and am 5 weeks in and they are helping me. They support sleep and no drowdy feeling remain following day. I still have issues and thinking my dosage needs increasing to 50mg which i find out from gp tomorrow. Im in Australia so not sure how available these are depending on where you are. Obviously i understand we are all different but my gp says its being used more to stop using the SSRI type medication. Good luck - janis
In the usa this is not used. Not approved.
Yeah i had read some countries were still not using it.
Buspar is very lite weight. Have tried it but found it useless. Not looking for a cure, just something that makes living a bit less difficult. I am approaching 73 and have been living with this for most of those years. To suggest "calm it down a bit" is advice that is easier said than done.
Thanks Janis, I'm in the US and apparently this drug is not approved here. Hope all goes well for you.
I meant the buspar calms it down a bit. For me it did. Medically induced. Not mentally calm it down. Sorry for the misunderstanding there. I would never say that to anyone it isnt possible or wed all do it.
There are herbs that can help but if you use medications you would have to check for drug interactions. Sweet basil, lemon balm, chamomile, passion flower, valerian. L theanine , Magnessium. Maybe see an alternative or complimentary doctor. They have other stuff besides traditional medicines. And many complimentary drs are medical doctors too,
Thanks james sorry i didnt realise you were in the US wishinv you well x
Im like you, need something to calm down the anxiety but dont do well on ssris. Diazepam works but only masks it. I would like to try valdoxan but in uk my psych told me its not approved due to liver issues. I am so annoyed about this, is it true anyone?
