Norethesterone

Can anyone of you give me some reassurance please. I'm 49 and suffered a heavy prolonged period and my dr gave me norethesterone to stop it,it has worked which I'm thankful for.as its progesterone based am right in thinking if the bleeding stopped using this it is definitely hormone related and not something more serious like polyps etc? Would the tablet work for other things not related to hormones? Thank you Michelle xx

I am not sure about Norethesterone working for other things but I am glad it worked for you. It did not work for me. What worked was drinking more water, taking a great female over 40 vitamin for hormone stabilization, eating healthier, getting enough sleep and staying active. My periods have been normal or not heavy (maybe for a day for a while) but I attribute that to maybe the drug Trazadone that I take for sleep and Manic Depression / Bipolar II.  I am one of the say 8% of women that suffer from PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), PTSD and Bipolar II. It could also be that my sleep patterns are better. I REMD pretty good last night. My period is about to start though and my moods are all over the place the last few days. I'm on Medicaid now at 44. I've had too many problems with my female parts and too many surgeries. I've had two car  accidents, an abusive ex who gave me a hematoma....etc. etc. So when that time of the month comes around I can either sit here alone and go crazy or go to my female support group. I am glad it is helping you. I would check with your doc. I think it might help with nice skin complextion and hair too, as well as mood. You are doing good. Its so weird with me because I build up to 10 days of irrational fear and anxiety. Its so bad that I have to be given sedatives during those 10 days to function. Then its like bam! Once my period starts...like a day later I start to feel what I would call normal. Mine is coming on today. I feel like crap but need to press on. I'm at home with a broken foot but my female  friend is coming to pick me up tonight for group. I'm not alone at least. I hope the best for you and wish you well.

I was prescribed this last year, i have been on it now  since  last June. My doctor did blood test, scan and smear to ensure everything else was ok. The withdrawal bleed is pretty bad, I was also referred to a consultant and they did a hysteroscopy where they found a polyp. I havent been back to see them since, im still waiting for my appt. The consultant has told me i can stay on them for 3 months then have a weeks break. But obviously you would have to be told that by a consultant. So far I havent had any problems on them, i have felt really good on them ,m as i say though just an horrendous week evry 3 month

Why was you prescribed them for heavy periods like me? Maybe I'm wrong and norethesterone stops all bleeding like your polyps? I thought as it was progesterone based it only worked for hormone related stuff? Am I wrong ? X

I was prescribed them for heavy bleeding, they found the polyp in December. I think its hormones my problem, its one of the questions i will be asking whene i go back to see consultant. the hospital did blood test but they said hormone levels were ok, Im sure thye must be influenced by the tablets though

Oh I see and yes understand being I thought you meant you were taking them for your polyp.yes I'm sure it's hormone related for both of us.my blood tests were normal too but means nothing my dr said.hiw old are you I'm 49 Wednesday.i was just trying to reassure myself that cos my bleeding stopped on norethesterone it is defintly hormones ? Say it was tumour cancer etc all sinister stuff would the bleeding stop using this pill? I'm such a huge health anxiety worrier and if I knew this I would be a it calmer xx

Is it 21 days then 7 off? Xx

Have you had a recent smear or blood test? My doctor tried to reassure me that if these came back clear, which they did , she didnt think it was anything to be overly concerned with but referred me to consultant just to check. the consultant did an internal and looked at my uterus andwanted to do a biopsie there and then , but i refused as i wasnt prepared for that. thats why i had a hysteroscopy. the doctor that did that afterwards said he had done the biopsies but was sure it was hormonal. They want me to have the mirena coil but i dont want it

Im sure everything will be ok, go for the hysteroscopy and it will hopefully ease your worries

at the beginning i has 3 weeks on them then 7 off but doctors can vary the dosage, check with them, at the moment im having 3 month on then 7 days off but thats with doctors permission

Yes a smear about 18 months ago and what type of blood test do you mean ? I've had a scan which showed womb fine no fibroid polyp but do have ovary cysts..I'm sure all the worry I had about the cysts caused my cycle to go haywire and notethesterone has stopped it but it was awful I spotted for 12 days then very heavy for another 10 so went to Dr who gave me this pill xx

How's the 7 days for you after 3 months of taking it? Does it finish before next dose it still do you bleed ? X

Just general blood test as they show up any thing that could be wrong with your white blood cells and things.

Last time i stopped on the Sunday, started on the Thursday and was really bad Froday and Sat so I actually started taking them again sat afternoon. It then eased and probaly had stopped by the Thurdsday / Friday

Don't worry for a minute. It could've hormone related due to getting closer to menopause or it could've a fibroid or polyp. Both are 99.9% benign. I've had both. I had them surgically removed but it was a breeze. Don't worry!

Thank you no polyps or fibroid only cysts on ovary.hooefulky just Peri xx

Yes blood test done in feb all normal.i think the immense stress I was so worried about the cysts brought this delayed prolonged heavy period on !! I truly believe stress caused it but I was worried as never experienced it befor a period like that xx

Im the same age Michelle, Im sure its just the start of the next stage in our lives

Yes I think so too thankyou for helping me xx
