Not such a good day today

Hi Hippies,

just when i think everything is going swimmingly, bit of adowner today....

started well, carrying two bowls of cereal up two flights of stairs easily, and ended well noting i've done 7,500 steps today.

BUT,

I was in Exeter town Centre, taking part in an anti  USA-EC-UK trade deal called TTIP demonstation, me being about 5.5 months post op, and....

I found standing still holding a placard for 20 minutes VERY tiring in my legs - fine moving about but standing for me was very hard, and

While I can kneel at home on carpers quite easily, and get up without holding onto anything, unlike pre op, kneeling or bending outside onto a pavement i found really hard: also so was my getting up again, needed the table for support.

I know I've more healing to do, but a tad disappointed that like my jog in the gym doesn't translate easily to a jog in the park earlier in the week - well, the outside world is still quite achallenge. So, a bit disappointed.

Oh Mic. Big cuddles. Literally, one step forward, two back, but sure it will even out. Time and gentleness.

I've just realised I have damaged my psoas (groin) muscle and need to lay up for at least 2 weeks. Grrrrr…

Good for you on TTIP. Despicable policy, against which I'm also campaigning x

Same here all going swimmingly then did just that bit too much. Don't get too down it won't take you long to get back where you were, just gently.

I bet you had that nagging thought in your head as you held that Packard ..I shouldn't be doing this!!

Heal well, best of luck

Hi Mic, so you took two bowles of cereal up two flights of stairs unaided, well I say well done for that, you sound as if you do have real mobility going on there,

I felt real strength today for the first time im my left leg, not on a march...

though I have gone back on the Tramadol Painkillers, had 6 today, feeling better, from the bug, had a walk, and felt the real power of walking again proper walking again.

I am watching Alone on the TV, have you ever watched one...Hmmm, what a show, putting blokes where there is no natural animal population, and without a gun for the Bears either, Darned Daft...I say.

And all these steps, ...A pedometer...YYY worry...So much..???

Are you waiting for the second one to be done yet, sorry cant remember, probably are as most folks here are in for that, both sides operation, I just did my first 20 steps in a row without a stick grounding me today and felt real strength in my strong leg for the first time. People are having their operations cancelled all the time because of cutbacks, I was cancelled twice, nearly a third time as they tried to save the 11K it costs.

Jjust remember how painful it really was, and how you winced just getting your leg into the car to drive, and how it was getting up sometimes, and how you howeled to yourself in pain shaking your painful leg to get it going again.

So you are not doing so bad hey????

Keep your Chin Up old boy, and remember you are not in a third world country where you would be laid up in bed crying yourself into an early grave...I feel that we all so lucky here to have had this life giving operation as quick as we have.

Keep in touch....Kindest regards Ian.

Dear Mic -

I hope you had a good night's sleep - Darn .. that sucks, doesn't it - good for you that you take it the way you do ... still some healing to do then -

I wonder why standing for a longer period of time is so challenging while walking is not ...

Maybe insert a day of rest today and be gentle to your self - Your body is telling you something -

Big and warm hug

My brother had a hip op two years ago and he still finds standing for a long period is a problem. It was a problem for me pre op so I won't be disappointed if that continues. Just try to remember how you were pre op and how far you have come. Go easy on the jogging too.!!

I have also found standing still for a long time very difficult. I sing in a choir and when standing to sing need to keep still for a myriad of reasons including not bovine and obstructing someone else's view of the conductor. Maybe it is just a legacy

Thanks everyone for support: all part of the recovery I guess. really appreciate your thoughts and caring.

Hi Mic,

i am 6mths post-op and I agree that standing still is not that easy, but you sound as though you are doing really well, please don,t be disappointed, you should be proud of yourself.

I have done well too and I don,t even think about my hip anymore, I just get on with everything without thinking and you will too.  I was unable to do the post-op exercises because of other conditions, so apart from walking I was a bit of a slob! But, I seemed to get on loads better than most other people!

Good luck,

best wishes

Sue

Sue

Am interested to know how your recovery went without the post-op exercises.  I am unable to do them as well due to a lot of groin pain possibly from psoas tendonitis-haven't gotten dx from doctor just yet.

Anyway have lots of concerns about not being able to get back to normal without the exercises.  Encouraging to hear you did fine without them.  Were you able to walk a lot.  I can't do that either right now because of groin pain nor can I sit properly.  I am hoping that resting for a few weeks will improve all of this and that I may be able to exercise at some point. Just worry about muscles deteriorating and being so far behind normal healing will cause long term problems.  Thanks for your input.

All the best,

Jeanne

Hey Sue

Nice reply...

I'm OK; you're OK. OK?
