im not sure if this is irritated skin or an STD, it looks like some pictures online but im not sure. i did have unprotected sex in feb. with my bf.

It looks like the whole area has been irritated by something. Have you been scratching this area for some time because it’s itchy? I have drawn a rough outline of the extent of the redness and the area inside looks lichenified (skin appears thickened) from rubbing or scratching.
There are many causes of this appearance. The commonest infective cause is thrush (Candida, a yeast infection); other causes include skin conditions like psoriasis or eczema, or an allergic reaction to something close to the skin (e.g. residual detergent in underwear) or certain drug allergies.
If possible, try to get checked for STDs and also infections like thrush and trichomonas. If this is not possible treat yourself for thrush with an antifungal pessary and some cream (e.g. Canesten); moisturise the skin and stop scratching the area.
I don’t think it’s herpes as I can’t see any ulcers, just this large lichenified patch of skin.
