Now getting pain 4 weeks after hip replacement

First 3 weeks were brilliant I was amazed how quickly I recovered. I now feel as though I am going backwards no longer able to walk without pain. I am due back at work as a hairdresser in 13 days but am now really panicking. Still taking painkillers.

4 weeks on pain killers not so bad.

I stopped my pain killers less that 3 weeks after surgery. Manage any issues with Tylenol now at 5+ weeks. I do get occasional pain and then take the Tylenol to ease it. It's a healing process that isn't the same for everyone.

Contact your doctor if you need to. I've spoken with mine numerous times since surgery.

A feeling of going backwards in recovery is very normal, lots of us get that.

I even got depressed when it happened to me, not something I had ever experienced before.

That feeling of depression crept up on me a few times. I sometimes think it's the lack of control in the recovery process. I've also experienced the unexpected "backwards" aspect. Fortunately there's a lot more "going forwards" in the recovery.

Hi Madeleine

I was the same after both hip replacements. Its probably a combination of things. Have you been doing physio?  Gosh, getting back to work in a job where you are on your feet all day sounds a bit soon.  Perhaps check back with your doctor.  I am a teacher and did not go back to work for 6 weeks as I was on my feet all day and things like getting in and out of the car added to the issue.

All the best.

It’s not clinical depression but what we defined as an Adjustment disorder.  Recovery itself is a strange phenomena.

It sure is strange
