RTHR done and dusted today, was back in the ward by 12pm.
However feel I have let myself down as spent the afternoon nausea and being sick (on water) couldn’t face eating anything evening now xx
I have antisickness meds next one can being at nine.
I have never been as bad as this before.
However would recommend epidural and sedation as I didn’t hear or feel a thing.
On my way to a pain free life, done and dusted excercises have begun (allbeit on the bed). As the anaestitic man said, They were fixing me.

Day 1
Well done and good luck Ann. I was fine for sickness in hospital until they tried me on Tramadol and they tipped me over the edge, apparently I was green, the switched to codeine, much happier. Once home I always started my first brew with a ginger biscuit and was fine from there. Should have mentioned this on earlier threads re tips/ hints, get them ginger stem or ginger nuts stockpiled!! take care
Helen
Well done. It’s not unusual to feel sick post op so don’t blame yourself x yes it’s now only upwards to a pain free mobile life. Keep us posted on how you do . And agree ginger is very good for nausea x
hi well done and good luck. Never thought i would hear myself say these words but i am pretty envious you have had it done lol ive been in denial for a while that i needed one! however boy do i know it now! I wish you a speedy and trouble free recovery
I was dreadfully sick too. I started when I was being wheeled out of the operating theatre. I think the spinal block was brilliant although I had no sedation so was fully awake, I found it all quite fascinating, I only wish I could have watched it. Everything else was fine, it was just the awful sickness. The food was all beige so I did not really miss out particularly.
hurray
all over Anne and now to start the journey back to normality !
EXERCISES EXERCISES EXERCISES is what it is all a out now and i am on day 10 and can feel the progress .
so pleased it went well and the weather didnt stop you !
take care

Please, please stop giving yourself a hard time. Its only been a few hours since your surgery. I am sure you will feel so much better tomorrow.
I agree with you with the spinal and sedation, its so much better than a general anasthetic.
All the best with your recovery.

I’m so sorry that you are feeling so sick, and I hope they get that under control for you. Hope you get some sleep and feel better tomorrow. Well done for starting your exercises. Onwards and upwards! x
Congrats. 1st day of the new you!
Glad the op went well for you. The sickness is a nuisance, I felt sick 2 days after the op, it annoyed me as I kept telling the nurses I had no pain but they still made me take oxycontin. I refused to take any home with me, just took paracetamol in case.
Do your exercises, walk as much as you can, do not rush to lose your crutches and look after you new hip. ![]()
another tip, Ann, depending on where you are in hospital, refuse the laxatives and ask for lactolose when you are home and happy to control your own ‘movements’ I struggled with the prescribed tablets, felt better taking lactolose early morning and having natural movement in the afternoon. Sorry if this upsets folk but it’s advice for a reason!!!
In my case that would have been an absolute disaster.
Hi Ann
Congrats on your first day over, and hope you feel better tomorrow. Like you i was so sick after the op. Spent entire evening getting sick and they had to give me anti nausea meds.
Felt normal the next day and actually ate tea and toast.
I’m almost 4 weeks and the op is like a distant memory. So its onwards and upwards from here.
Get well soon
Mary
I had moments before that I thought am I doing the right thing, but with the arthritis pain that I felt this is much better already. At this moment in time feel no pain my groin or thigh muscles expect the only pain is from the op.
Ann
congrats on your new shinny hip. you are so brave to cope with the after surgery issues. i had 3 thr surgeries each one was different . the revision 2017 i had a few melt downs the meds made me itch so bad l i felt like bugs crawling all over me and bees stinging over and over. finally they got it under control its something you never expect. once your thru the first few days and can feel better eating foods and drinking protein shakes will get you feeling so much better. sending many healing blessing your way! soon your on to a pain free life and improved mobility hopefully by summer you’ll be back to life as usual.
congratulations!
I too had my new hip last August, and am now pain free and walking miles every day!
was really off my food whilst at hospital after the spinal and for afew days after returning home.
however, am now back to my usual self, trying to curb my appetite do as not to gin weight and put undue strain on my new hip
i do get niggles after walking too much some evenings, - and the scar stings now and again with the cold weather, but hey-ho onwards and upwards now, and the summer is ahead of us!
All the best with your recovery!

I had Gabapentin, Trimethaprin, Oramorph, Paracetamol, Codeine for pain relief, was given those little pearl shaped yellow and white capsules for bowel movements. I ended up take Laxido as well, up to four times a day, to keep regular.
