Hi, I am currently recovering from Labarynthitis and Post Viral Fatigue. During these illnesses I have developed severe health anxiety and have just started CBT. I have often felt very spaced out and detached with a foggy brain and found it difficult to think, this could have been caused by the anxiety, the PVF or the lab. However, this last week I have felt less spaced and more able to think but sometime my brain at the back just feels numb (no idea if this is real numbness or psychosomatic!). I can think okay but still feel very detached emotionally from everything. Has anyone ever experienced this, is just the brain fog and depersonalisation lifting or is it something else? Should I be worried? Any thoughts gratefully received.
Hey joanne
I believe what you are describing is all just anxiety based. Nothing worse than when you feel as though your not all there. I understand completly with this as it is similar to what i experience. Im not going to lie and say it is easy to get rid off but i will say that patience is the key the last week ive had i honestly believe is the best i have had mentally. The ringing in the ears is a different story all the same. Lol. It is just brain brain fog tery doing some online quizes and writing it works for me just to know that my brain is still functioning to a high lvl. I hope this helps ease that everything in the end will be ok.
Hi Joanne,
Not sure how helpful this will be but I think it's probably psychosomatic, mainly because there is no way your brain could actually be feeling numb. This is because there are no sensory receptors inside the brain so you can't actually feel anything inside it at all. The brain gets and makes sense of sensory information from all the other parts of the body but there’s nothing inside it to give it any sensory information and about itself. Like when people need surgery on their brain all they get is a little bit of local anaesthetic for the incision – then there’s absolutely no need for anything else as they can’t feel a think inside the actual brain. I guess in other words your brain should "feel" numb ; )
But you can check with your doctor if you want to, just for peace of mind.
All the best,
Anya
Thank you William and Anya, very reassuring! This anxiety stuff really sucks doesn't it!! x
