HI I am 14 months tkr and l still have slight numbness on the out side of my knee, is this normal.
Hi
yes i was told that swelling, pain and numbness can last upto to two years and possibly not go away fully. I’m 10 months on and still have numbness and swelling … but the pain i had prior to op has gone xx
I believe it’s normal. My doctor said most lose some where nerves were cut. i am one year past and have some but not bad
I’m 18 months and still have numbness and pain I had a partial but was told in a few years will need a full. I don’t think it’s worked still on all med as always in pain
Yes, it is very normal. I am still a bit numb after 2 years and 4 months but was told it may be forever.
i am 14 mths out also and am still numb and in lots of pain?!?!??
It’s probably some minor nerve damage from the op. There’s a spot or two near the incision line. No pain…just can’t feel anything when I touch that spot. I’m 3 years post-op so I don’t expect it to come back…like ever…
What kind of pain? At 14 months, your ROM should be at or close to 0 straight and at least 120 bent. That will get you up and down stairs. You should also have completed the muscle rebuild because your quads, glutes, core and more are D-E-D, dead. Regaining all that strength takes a huge load off the new knee. Takes months of work but soooooo worth it.
All of that should leave you with little to no major pain but maybe some residual stiffness, tightness, clunking noises, etc. up until 18 months. (Everyone’s different so this is just a general guideline.) Again, if you’ve done the ROM and muscle rebuild work, you should not be in major pain at this point…very rare if you’ve done the work.
If you have not done the muscle rebuild, that could account for pain in the new knee since it’s under a lot of pressure without the surrounding musculature taking up the load it’s supposed to. If you’re suffering from other pain, check here…
Hope this helps.
I am 11 years post op on my first TKR and i still have a small area without feeling. I have had a few surgeries and everyone has an area where the nerves dont regenerate.
