numbness an pain in legs and moving up body

I have woken up this morning with numbness and pain in my legs. It seems to be getting worse and moving up my body anyone got any ideas what this could be?

Is this the first time you have ever experienced this before? Have you had a vaccine or infection recently?

Yes first i have experienced this. And no not had infection or vaccine lately.

I had something happen to me back in June that started as pain and numbness in my little toe and continued up my body causing extreme muscle weakness. They think that I had mild Guillain Barre after ruling out other disorders. What does the pain feel like? Are you having any weird muscle twitches or nerve firing in your calves?

this happened to me in january 2010 woke up for work numbness in legs and worked its way up and within 24 hours i was paralysed from waist down not looking scare you but if it gets worse go hospitalsad condition called devics disease what hit me from being okay one day to not moving next

The pain is really bad and getting worse like a burning pain. Having a lot of weird muscle twitches have been since i woke up.

Oh dear i hope thats not what i have got!. What other symptoms did you have?

i hope its not alsosad had loss of power in legs severe burning which is still there to this day its rare devics think its 1 in 100,000 what get hit with it so its highly unlikely you will have it but needs treating asap stop it going worse just see how you go

I have got severe burning its really annoying. I will see how it is in a few hours if its not any better i will try and see out of hours docter and see what they say.

yeah you do that, its not gonna be what i have you would be unlucky if it was but keep an eye on it could be an infection or some muscle problem try not worry but get it looked at if it goes worse

Try not to get too scared about it because that complicates things (easier said than done, I know) but you should get this checked out soon. GBS is rare too but can also be very serious in some cases needing treatment in the hospital early on but recovery is pretty good in most all of the cases from mild to the most serious.

Yes i doubt it will be what you have. But if it still the same or gets worse i will go and get it checked. Thank you.

I am trying not to get worried about it. I will go and get it checked out.

yeah recovery is good if treated early i had great treatment in hospital without it i wouldnt be walking again now GBS,NMO,MS, all complicated conditions good luck

Good luck to you! Hope you get better soon! Nerves can regenerate which is good but I can definitely relate to that burning pain. Had it for awhile with this but thru PT and time I have made great recovery. Worse part is not knowing. Keep up the great attitude!

Hi Jade,

Numbness of any kind sholuld not be taken lightly, either dial out of hour services or visit A & E. I would be careful with A & E at this time of year and being a Sunday. The NHS is already ovderloaded, but at least seeing a GP out-of-hours you will get seen quicker.

It sounds like you need to see a Consultant Neurologist ASAP.

Regards,

Les.

Hi jade I hope u can get some answers I too have got this and I've had it since April last year 2013 I've had no answers apart from saying it must be a damaged nerve and there is nothing they can do. I can't accept it my life has gone from bein very active and good mobility to not bein able to do much at all. I am numb from the waist down. Wish I could find out what has caused this xx good luck with things and you should go straight away to a&e

It could be sciatic nerve, would suggest you go  see an acupuncturist. My dad has the same pain, couldnt walk.  He had treatment for two weeks and come good.

Hi Julie,

Have you not been diagnosed at all by a Consultant Neurologist at all? I assume you live in the UK, correct me if I am wrong. I for one, had similar issues, have you not had any CT scans, MRI scans, etc? It took Doctors, Consultant Neurologists and Professors specialized in the field of Neurology to eventually come to conclusion what was wrong with me, which at the time was Focal Segmental Dystonia, you can also get a form of Dystonia if you suffer from Functional Episodes (I would give you a website that explains this, but it would cause this post to get placed in moderation), the Consultant Neurologist that runs the site is well known in Neurology in the UK, his name is Dr Jon Stone.

I was diagnosed nearly 30 years ago, the reason it took so long for me to get diagnosed correctly is because at that time I was one of seven reported cases in the UK. It was rare back then, not so rare now though however some people think it has similar symptoms to MS, it may look that way to some normal General Practitioners because they have never seen actual people that suffer from it. I was diagnosed in the end, which took nearly 2 years by a Professor David Marsden from the US, that I met in London. Sadly, he passed away at a young age, but was known worldwide.

My mobility has gradually decreased over the years, because Dystonia has many variations - and over time can lock and deform your body, with muscular spasms, cramps and muscle issues. To me it is a condition I would not wish upon my worse enemy, there is no cure and it can only be controlled by medications and BOTOX injections every 3 months which are very painful.

It may not even be this, but you need a proper diagnosis, not a consultant which probably sends you home with no diagnosis and some tablets.

Les.

Hi les, I've not been diagnosed I've had all the relevant tests Mri, ct scans, lumbar puncture, something they do on your ankles and feet( can't remember wot it's called) but it was uncomfortable because my feet are numb. I have different feelings In my legs 1 feels heavy and slightly numb where as the other leg is totally numb can't feel heat on either led but the right is worse than the leg.also constipation and bladder problems. Swollen stomach (looks like I'm pregnant) lol. Can't feel anything in my private parts either.

Yes I am in the uk

and thankyou for replying x
