Numbness and pins and needles

I had a billeteral hip replacement 5 weeks ago today, had no major problems with hip but my left foot has been left with numbness and pins and needles, surgeon did MRI SCAN on hips and spine and said nothing had shown up and that it was a streched nerve which he said can be common in double hip replacement, as I say hips been fine but pain in foot like an electric taser , see surgeon in 2 weeks just wondering if anyone else has experience of this

Hi Brian,

I am about 15 weeks.  I’m still experiencing that same feeling in my operated THR and a little in my good leg.  Pins and needles.

Steve

Wow, I’m home today, I feel good, pain and burning sensation in hip area but much better then before surgery.

Hope all is well with you

Hi Brian:  I have a completely numb thigh - I had anterior approach THR on 9/6 - it feels sort of like its asleep - and my incision feels like it's constantly sunburned.  I guess these are the side effects or common occurrences when having the surgery done using the anterior approach.  Don't know if this is the same type of sensation you are experiencing, but it sounds pretty similar.  I sometimes get the pins and needles sensation in my foot too (operated leg).  I've been told they cut or damage a nerve going in from the front.  I have peripheral neuropathy in my legs so I don't know that I feel what other people feel.  Hope with the passage of time it gets better for you.

Hi Brian, I don’t know which approach you had but I have heard that the anterior approach can cause nerve problems.

Yeah thanks guys for all the replies and sharing , it's good to know we are not alone, don't think a lot of people realise sometimes what a big operation it is, I said at the time wasn't sure if getting both done at same time was a great idea but I'm thinking now I would've had to get both done eventually in near future so pretty glad not having to go through all that again If I only got one done

That sounds very like the Carpal Tunnel symptoms for the wrist, so a stretched nerve would be a real possibility
