Hi lovely Hippies. I had an anterior hip
Replacement 13 weeks ago. Improvements are being made every day and this forum helped me to realise that we must all be kind to ourselves and recover at our own rate. Anyway my question is - is it normal to have a huge area on thigh that is numb after this op? It's below my scar down to my knee and a hand span across. Thanks
I had anterior hip 6 months ago and I have numbness on outside of left hip and by the incision area. Also incision area is dented in and still feels bruised. I massage the area to get the blood flowing...
Hi Donna
I had a lot of numbness around my wound and down the outside of my leg. when I had my first hip operation, it didnt really affect my walking or my recovery but just felt a bit strange. I mentioned it to my surgeon at my checkup at 7 weeks and he said it was quite normal and should clear up over the next few months. Sure enough it has - I cant remember exactly when all the feeling came back as it was gradual maybe 4-5 months?
Put it like this I am 9 months post op and have all the feeling back in my right leg.

I had my TRHR 6 months ago and I'm only just getting feeling back down the back of my thigh all the way to the knee. Didn't have any numbnedd round the incision though. Very weird sensation, I was told also it's just the healing process so nothing to worry about. It didn't actually hurt but just bothered me a bit. It would be helpful I think to be warned of these things but at least the forum is a great help.
Thank you so much for the response. I didn't know this reaction was likely so was getting a little worried. The consultant said it would go by 12 weeks when I saw him at 6wks post op. I'm walking ok but Still need to learn how not to limp or waddle! Not on painkillers so that's a massive improvement from pre op! Each day gets better but it feels slow at the beginning so for the newbies - be kind to yourselves as it's a major op! Thanks again to this forum xxx
7 1/2 weeks post anterior op and also have a large numb area across and down my thigh. Feels very weird, but not sore. My surgeon also said it would gradually improve. I was expecting a bit of a numb spot, just not over such a wide area!
