I still limp whenever I first get up. The limping and pain last for about 10 steps. X-rays show everything is ok
I Walk about a mile twice a day
Is this normal and when will the limping stop?
I also have trouble putting on socks on my operated side

I am two years on. Still limp sometimes, but can pretend I don't if I have to...
Revel a bit in the limp, You can now officially use lifts rather than stairs, I had my surgery two years ago; I do walk a lot but it still hurts and if I am crossing a road at a traffic light, I will limp like heck to avoid being run over by the people who don't have a few seconds to wait. I fall over a lot. Probs will need more surgery in future. I hope not, and will continue walking in the meantime.
Take your cane/crutches. Don't dismiss them too soon. That support is important.
I think it's normal.......I'm very stiff when getting up....I'm 10 weeks now....the muscles in both legs are painful still as well...
6 months post op and had same problem limping, pain and stiffness after sitting down. When getting up and pain in groin area had to shuffle for the first few steps as could not weight pain in operated side. Last week I went to see my consultant and after an ultra sound scan I was diagnosed with psoas tendonitis and as a result given a steroid injection ... what a difference. Apparently this condition is common. So don’t put up with the pain, go and get it investigated.
Good luck
Talk to your doc
I did and he suggested more healing time was needed
It's very frustrating
We’re all different. After a lifetime of exercise, I fell and broke my hip. I am going on only 7 weeks but have started to swim and ride my bike around town successfully, but gradual in increasing my activity.
it does go to a great extent, however if tired or very stiff after sitting for a long time I do limp for a few steps.
Totally normal, a lot of us (most) are a bit stiff when we get up, and limp for a step or two.
I am 8 weeks left posterior THR tomorrow. I was doing very well, no limp no pain...then last Thursday I went back to work. Same thing for me! Monday each time I stood up from a sitting position I had pain and limped for about 10 steps...then I could move well without pain. I was very discouraged. Went to my therapist yesterday and after moving me around all over the place, and 10 minutes on a bike, I was pain free upon standing. She thinks because my job is sedentary I am not moving enough and then get stiff. She recommended marching from a seated position, plus bringing my knee to my chest a few times before standing...It helped! I go back tomorrow and can't wait.
Also I had been using an elastic shoelace for the shoe on my operated side but no longer need to. Think it is a matter of flexability for me.
Good luck!
I had left THR posterior approach on 5th Oct 2017 (16 weeks ago). I do 1 hour of aqua fit and 1 hour of Pilates every day Tues to Fri Also 1 hour Yoga on Tuesdays. The rest of the week I walk about 10,000 steps per day. If I don’t exercise my hip stiffens up. If I sit too long my hip feels a bit stiff for a few steps. My hip flexor muscles are still a bit sore but my hip feels very strong and stable. I’m working on my stamina as I still get tired easily and often have a siesta in the afternoon. My Physio said it can take about 9 months to feel back to normal but I imagine everyone is different. I love doing exercise though. Definitely makes my hip feel a lot better. I intend to add gym sessions to my routine as my stamina improves but taking it steady for now.
Regards
Ann
Very normal, I am 40 and work outdoors pretty hard. I had thr posterior right side august 17 so I am around 5 months. Every time I get out of bed I hobble and then it goes away. I am getting up at 3 am to drive a plow truck and jump in and out non stop. some days my thy burns an stings and I ice it. Then other days I feel great. Dr keeps telling me to take it easy, its major surgery. I'm his young gini pig that doesn't listen.
Hope this helps
I'm 69 and very active. I think I need to give this more time
It sounds like the limping and a little pain after sitting are typical
I don’t limp but I am slow starting. Hell, it was very invasive surgery and we all react differently. I have lumbar stenosis too and had a procedure to quell the pain that was successful till I cracked my hip and after surgery that pain reappeared. My neurosurgeon tells me that it should go away as the hip heals more.

I have had a bit of a limp ever since my first THR 9 years ago. Still able to walk, cycle, garden etc though.
And I struggle to put my sock on the operated leg. I think I didn't try hard enough to get the movement back after my THR. Since my revision I have worked at that and it is improving a bit. Still a struggle but slightly less of one.
Mike
Perhaps your muscles still have some mending to do. I am not a doctor though!
