Anybody else get these? They are terrifying me and seem to come when i'm really stressed. Any tips on dealing with them? x
If its the same thing as i have experienced my doctor called it migraine with aura. I was doing the ironing one day 2 years ago when the sight in my left eye went black and then it went like i was looking through a clear glass patterned window or a kalaiedascope... I was terrified and it triggered a massive panic attack. I went to the doctor the next day convinced i had had a mini stroke and he explained to me about these migraines but i didn't believe him because like most people i think of migraine as a painful headache and indeed i used to suffer with them but havent had one for years! I had a second episode a year later whilst sunbathing and i was so scared i went back to docs again... I am now on propranalol which the doc says will lessen my chances of having more and so far so good i can sympathise with you because it is frightening but my doctor has explained to me that migraines can change as you age with your hormones changing etc and i am not in any danger and so i have started to relax and if it happens again i have prepared myself for what i am going to say over and over again, touch wood this will work!
Thank you i don't know anyone who's had them. Bit fed up , trying to decide what medication i'm happy to take. xx
Yes, I've had these and also been told they were migraines. Which doesn't make them any less terrifying! The first time I had one, it started off as a pulsating ball of ... Well you couldn't call it light, more a see through mass (or an aura), that slowly developed into full blown tunnell vision. I ended up having a huge panic attack because I thought I was going blind. Have had these before, and every time they create the same fear!
The only thing you can do really is to deal with the anxiety that goes with these migraines. Which is hard when suffering from an anxiety disorder. Like when I have a panic attack, I'll tell myself that it won't hurt me, I'm not going to go blind and it'll soon be over. Sometimes, I'll go to bed and try and sleep it off. Sometimes you CAN get headaches after these auras, and the best thing to take with these is co-codamol if you can! I know they're scary, but just tell yourself they'll pass!
I will say, since I went on sertraline for my anxiety, these migraines were reduced quite drastically. So here's to hoping for some longer respite without them!
