i am a psychotherapist and a touch over the wrong side of thin.
i have the misfortune of being diabetic too, so the doc agreed i could have a go at these magic blue pills.
anyway, there i was in a therapy session with a client, 20 mins in and about 80 miles from home. all of a sudden i felt this really wierd experience and was aware that some kind of fluid had started to leach from an orafice that i thought i had some control over. it felt like i had melted in my chair. i was totally mortified and not so sure what to do. it felt like 20 gallons had seeped away and no matter how hard i clenched i had absolutely no control at all. i decided to stay with the session as there was no tell tale odour to suggest any wrong doing. at the end of the session i stood up and saw there was no oil slick left in the chair. i went past my next client and showed the first one to the door. i returned via the toilet and discovered to my surprise just a spot of oil in my jeans (i always go comando) about the size of a very small pea.
i decided to unload my crude oil, and felt like i was turning inside out.
i had been on the magic blues for one month and had never experienced anything at all. even with the metformin i take (which is notorious for gastric upsets) i had not experienced even the slightest hint of anything wrong.
in hind sight i find this extremely funny, but at the time was really scary. i ended up tieing my jumper around my waist for the rest of the day to cover my spot of shame, which i couldn't wash away.
oohh poor you, can you look over the previous couple of days and see where you over ate on the fat? that way you can at least attempt not to do it again.
I've been lucky (or just extremely careful at reading the fat content) and have not had any leakage. Have had a couple of oily, orange moist stools and a couple of blow offs on the loo that have pebbled dashed it but I know that was from eating red meat as I was generally like that with red meat before the pills so no real suprise, so don't eat it that often
no, i don't particularly watch anything that i eat.
the doc said it was quite simple really, eat a healthy diet and i wont suffer side effects, eat a high fat content diet and i could become incontinent with little or no notice.
that kind of appeals to my sense of excitement (warped i must say, but true none the less).
my diet has changed without a doubt, and i have certainly lost weight, however i am not obsessive moreso prudent i think.
i also have to watch out for the sugar content of food too due to the diabetes so eating is becoming more of a necessity to remain alive as opposed to a pleasureable experience. hence i must get my excitement elsewhere now.
it was my idea to go on these as a way to get down my blood sugar levels to which my diabetes specialist and gp both agreed could be useful.
yhe bit that struck me as the most shocking element of this episode was the serious lack of any control whatsoever and the feeling of it being worse than it was.
i also figured it was one of those orlistat tales that needed to be shared for pure entertainment value :D
your GP does not seem to off advised you correctly, the whole onus of these pills is to make you check your fat content and watch what you eat, If you exceed the 30g's per day and no more than 15g's of fat at a sitting you will get the side effects and yes they can be uncontrollable if you have exceeded the fat intake by the 15g's. The fact you get these side effects is supposed to stop you over indulging in the fat intake and thus aiding you to lose weight.
If you haven't already I would suggest reading the information leaflet that came with the tablets and when you next see your GP point out his mistake so he doesn't allow the incident you had happen to someone else.
