I was on anti dep for 10 yrs. Then my new dr told me i was on a dose that was dangerous for my heart. THis scared me and i decided to go off completely. Its really hard to tell if i am doing ok or not. its hard to diagnose yourself. My dr. just said.. go back on.. and didn't even try to support me with trying to be off .. my husband is a great support.. can anyone relate? help
Hi Julie
what meds were you on and what dosage. Sorry to say it was quite irresonsible of your dr to suggest just comie off them. If that is what you want to do he should be monitoring with the tapering off. Not a good idea to go off meds cold turkey.

Hi Lynda, i weaned slowly, didnt go off cold turkey. I was on citalopram 60 mg
If you have been on meds for 10 years I strongly suggest to stop taking them SLOWLY. For example take them every second day instead of every day for a few weeks (if you had 1 daily dose). Don't just stop taking them.
Hi julie
i was on 40mg for a long time then switched to sertraline but now considering going back on citalopram at 30 mg. did you experience any side effects coming off?
lynda
Just to clarify i did not come off cold turkey.. i weaned off slowly.. Yes i experienced massive withdrawal and it was horrible, even though i did it slowly. Now I am off for a month and feeling anxiety .. I started taking a natural supplement called 5 Htp. it seems to calm me down a bit, just not sure if its enough..
Ah I am sorry then. Going cold turkey can be dangerous lmao, that's why I wrote that. Have you tried cognitive behavioral therapy? It can have excellent results in people with anxiety.
Hi Julie if you have been on pills for a long time you should never suddenly stop. If you wish to work yourself off then then its best to lower then over time for the brain to adjust slowly. You ll take uo to 6 weeks of not being on any efore you'll know if you re gong ti be o,k
