Hi fellow hippys
Just to let you know I managed two weeks at work on s phased return then by the end of the second week was hardly able to walk, went to the go who to me I'd strained my back, I've been off all this week and not sure if I'm fit enough to go in next week, I'm waiting another referral for occupational health, has this happened to anybody else? I'm due to speak with my physio tomorrow to find out what I should do next, when will I feel normal again any suggestion s I'm so fed up, feel like I've gone back months not weeks 😁
That should read Gp ( predicted text!!!)
6th October went back to work week 14 post op ended up getting another sick note week 16 and I now ache like hell!! And feel like I'm limping when I walk
Hi Victoria did you have one side or both done?? We all need more infomation??
Please tell whats going on...Ian.
What's your job Victoria and how did they alter your work load on the phased return? I will be in discussions soon about a phased return and would be useful to know what has set you back. I hope your doctor now advices that you rest more before returning again and that at work they are more realistic about what you can do. Hope you feel better again soon.
Not been that long then since your op.. Everyone heals at different times. Many a time I felt I had had a big knock back but that might be due to your hip doing more.. I was off six months before I went back to work as I am a nurse who does 12 he shifts.. I had a big limp and was going to accept it but went private and found out my pelvic has been knock squint so after the 1st session my leg was the same length.. When u go by to work it is quite sore because you probably are more active than you think and the muscle has to heal.. Might look good from outside but inside is still doing a lot of healing that you don't see. Hope that helps a bit x
I had THR on the left side on 6th October last year, all went well no problems with surgery or leg length sailed through the op no swelling ect,. Started walking without aid of crutches about week 7-8 then slowly on my own after that, I was fit and healthy before the op walked cycled went to gym ect, then it a was too painful with the arthritic hip. Consultant was happy to do op even though only 54 said it would improve the quality of my life......
I work for social service as a support worker on the community so it's in Znd out of my car, etc a phased return was organised for work the idea to increase my hours by 1 a week for 4 weeks until I got up to my contracted hours this didn't happen due to the set back, has this happened to anybody else I'm so fed up wanted to be back to normal ish by now
You must very very disappointed but it seems like you went back to too much too soon. It's advice I can learn from you. Thank you. I'm sure if you were doing well before, you will soon get back to that with more rest now.
Victoria, I wonder if the strain of getting in and out of the car pushed you over the edge. Is the car low to the ground? Perhaps when you get out of the car you might be twisting your hips a bit? I know I have to be careful of that and catch myself twisting.
GOSH, I sure hope you spring back. I am with you in spirit.

Hi Vicky,
Really sorry you have had a set-back now you are back at work. It is so easy to overdo things without realising, when you are back at your normal job, doing what is expected of you without stopping to think whether it might be too much. How many hours did your staged return start off with? Maybe it was just a bit too many. I have just finished the first full week's work since hip revision on October 14th (working 35 hours, officially, but was able to go home an hour or so early on two days). And I am sore, especially at night; was almost off pain relief but had to bump them right up again. I started at beginning of January with three half days and that was plenty. Am also really tired!
A physio should be able to advise you how much or little you should be doing, and maybe give you some lovely massage to restore your back. And occy health should help you if you need more adjustments at work, as it obviously is making you hurt. I haven't had any experience of them, have been referred but not heard yet. I have a feeling they will only do a phone asessment on me anyway.
Don't get too despondent, it is a setback, but you will get sorted and back to full strength again soon. It is just taking a bit longer than you'd like. I never thought I would still be using a damn crutch after nearly 16 weeks; have only just started to limp about the house without it, sometimes, in the last couple of weeks.
Take care, and heal well
Jean
