My dad had a stoke in March last year and lately he has been moaning of feeling "himself but not.... like he is here but not" and I couldn't ask him to explain it any clearer. But he has been falling a lot now too going dizzy then when on the floor not realising why he is there.... Is this normal? What can I do to help him I'm scared in case the next fall really injures him. Can anyone give me any advice please?
Amy
You do not state how old you dad it, nevertheless what you are describing is certainly not normal.
The sensible thing for you to do would be to get him to his doctor as soon as possible and explain what is happening.
There could be many reason for what is going wrong, but you do need a doctor to investigate it.
Oh yes sorry he is 67 and is a very frail but stubborn old man and won't let anyone help him. But I will make an appointment in the morning and just tell him it's a routine check. I know that seems unfair and misleading but if I ask him to come the doctor to get a check up he will tell me I'm over reacting and he will not go. I just dnt want to not do anything in fear of the worst and to be told after it could have been prevented if only I did something.
'Old man'?
My dear young lady I'm 71, so does that make me a relic then? (Joking)
Yes, somehow get him to the doctor, or get the doctor to him. Either wasy I feel that he does need to be seen.
Please let me know how you go on.
Take care
A
Oh gosh I apologise haha I am never too good at being pc. I should have stated he acts and looks a lot older than he is. He is thin and week and coughs a. lot and is genuinely unwell so I feel like he is old and frail at that age. Haha thank you for making me laugh and taking things fun for me. It's nice to feel at ease a bit.
I had a stroke 3 years ago. Does your dad have regular blood tests (INR), is he on Warfarin or some other blood thinner? I have blood tests on a regular basis, weekly to monthly as deemed necessary by the clinic. Have you tried calling the Stroke Unit or get the GP to come and see your dad at home. I'm sure if you explain the situation to the surgery they would schedule a home visit.
Having regular falls is not normal and should be investigated urgently.
Wish you well and hope you get some resolution. Please let us know.

Your father needs to see a neurologist. Several months after my stroke in May 14, I began to fall regularly and was very weak on those occasions. My GP dismissed it as stroke related and would do nothing, but after seeing a specialist we discovered the stroke had triggered sensory migraine. I am not saying your father has the same problem but he needs to investigate what is going on. I am old too at 69 and it is very frightening
