Oh to sleep on my side

Not complaining. Got 2 hours and then another Hour. Dreaming that I had wrong panties on and woke up just as I was about to take them off. I sooo want to curl up on my side. A walk around now, a massage of bottom and try for a few more hours.

Hi Attractac, I can sleep on my left, and on my right but is still sore now even after 7 weeks...will take a while, Ian +++

Good morning, before my op I researched how to sleep on your side post op. I bought a large piece of covered foam that is specially designed by a man who was desperate to sleep on his side. He worked with his Physio to design something that supports the whole of the operated leg and foot.

The first couple of times I tried it I thought it felt too bulky and I didn't trust it but since week three it is my new best friend. I start on my back, place it between legs and then roll over in such a way that my leg is lifted onto it in a slightly bent position - then I sleep !

Sounds great laura, I just use a pillow between mylegs and that eases the pain quite a lot, but have to remove it after 4 hrs once the painkillers wear off...Nice one for you though....Ian +++

Good morning early  birds ...

I was able to sleep on my left (unoperated) side while still in hospital ... they showed me how to put pillow between my legs and turn to side with it ...

I am used to sleep with one of those body pillows ... full lenght - could buy them anywhere in L.A for $20 --- can't find them in stores here in Holland ... I prefer the full lenght one because with just the pillow my upper body slumps to the side ... I remember that someone on this forum bought one from the internet in the UK but it is called different ... and I forgot the name ...

take care and be kjind to your self

warm hug

Hi Renee

Hope you are well this morning

Although awake for a couple of hours last night, I actually SLEPT the rest of the time and it was wonderful  - not a scrap of pain

I didn't have a sleep during the day yesterday as I had a busy day( so maybe that's the reason

Cannot wait to lie on my side - seeing surgeon next week so fingers crossed

Hope you have a wonderful day in lovely Holland

best wishes Linda xxπŸ™‹πŸ™‹

yesterday  was gven the go ahead to sleep on my side. I was soooo looking forward to it. I had 3 hours sleep on my right side, 1 hur on my left side (hip done) and ended up the rest of the night dozing on my back. So tired this morning, lol  xx

oh the dreams........I've been having some crazy ones too. I put it down to the drugs!! Good luck with the sleeping 🌝

I never dream normally and I really love to, so I've quite enjoyed the post op dreams.

Hope you have some good ones!

Have a really lovely day

Kind wishes Linda xx

ps how is the house move going?

I know what you mean. I got desperate. Only getting 2 hours per night.  I persevered on my back for 2 1/2 weeks, then I could take it no longer!!!!  I got the pillow, fairly plump one, placed it between my legs ang gingerly rolled onto my good side.  I was really apprehensive, even a little scared😬😬😳

it was blissπŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†. I stayed for a while, but operated hip started hurting, nagging sort of pain, so I was back on my back.  I did this every night and managed a little longer each night. Now, (3 weeks today) I can go to sleep!!  On my side. 😴😴😴😴😴😴😴  I no longer dread the night times. I still get up for wee or two (what did they do to our bladders?!)

so it will get better. I put a duvet in front of me as well as I was worried i would cross my leg over.

The other bit that was lovely, it gave by bottom a rest, I still can't believe how much my bum hurt!

Good luck, try and sleep today when you can

lots of love CarolπŸ˜„ Xx

OMG OMG OMG I just found this forum this morning when I was Googling some of the issues I'm having 2 weeks post total right hip replacement.  I am averaging around 4 hrs sleep a night and some nights I only get 2 sad. I'm a tummy or right hand side sleeper and stick my other leg out but Dr Google says I can't sleep on my tummy for 6 weeks so I'm basically screwed sad. I'm trying to sleep mostly on my left hand side with a pillow between my legs but as others have said I have to roll onto my back once the pain killers wear off.  It is weird but it is nice knowing that others are experiencing the same issues. I was even tempted to go to the Drs to get sleeping pills as I don't want the lack of sleep to slow down my recovery.

Hi Laura, Where would I get one of these amazing sleeping buddies? I'm due for my op 30th this month and have been practising sleeping on my back with little sucess so I'm a bit worried!

Here is one like mine, not sure if this is where I got mine from.

i love mine but it does take up a lot of room in the bed.

Hi Patricia

The site will not allow me to send a link but I found it by doing a search on slumber support futon hip replacement.  Hope this helps.

Laura

Laura, thank you so much. I found it using your search terms and I bookmarked it for when I need my other hip done. It's starting to give me pain so I know eventually I'll need that one done also. Having already had a THR and the experience of sleeping on my back, I can say that the product looks AWSOME! I know I will go for the one with memory foam.

Thanks Laura, I've ordered one already!X

I used to use pillow under knee, on both sides, pre-op to stop hip pulling. I suspect I'll be using a pillow for a long time to come.

Yes back in the bed now to get swelling down from knee. District nurse had a look and like people on here say its due to all the manhandling during op. Is it the meds and blood thinners that make us wee so much. Also I am drinking lots to keep bowels moving. A lot of things consultants don't warn us about. At my previous op consultant said I need someone during the day for the first week home but no need for someone overnight. I said what if I have to toilet during the night. He said oh in that case you would need someone overnight. Of course he has not reached the agecof nocturnal seeing(with or without op) yet.

They need some of us hippies to educate them.
