I am wondering whether I need to massage my scar with oil after the scabs have gone, I was thinking of using raw virgin coconut oil or does it eventually heal without bothering.
When completely healed massage with oil can help. Various ones used, I used bio-oil, others used their own favoutites
I used bio oil with excellent results

My consultant recommended Bio Oil or E45. I’m using Bio oil and it seems to be helping
I am using Bio oil and it seems to be helping.
Thanks Pamela.
Never used E45 I will look at that, thanks.
I have some bio oil in the house, thanks.
Thanks.
Bio oil is recommended. I am using this for my incision places after surgery for hip fracture. Regular massaging in of oil is great for healing scars. My experience suggests doing it daily for a number of months. My husband’s facial scar is almost invisible after daily attention for nearly a year.
Thanks Ink blot.
Like Maggie, I used Bio Oil - very good stuff.
Bio oil seems to get the vote as the best oil to use. Thanks.
Hi Jen I was instructed to use cocoa butter and actually massage the wound. It helped with scar tissue.😃 Try what works best for. Be patient with yourself. Blessings! Teresa
I’ve been using scar tape to keep pressure on scar to flatten it.
At what stage are people using bio oil. I am almost eight weeks and the surgeon asked what I was massaging into it- which I wasn’t at that stage
I started once the staples were removed. I aim to massage bio-oil in for at least five minutes each day.
Apparently catt1 they are saying when the scabs have gone and the wound is completely healed.
I take it this is external healing. My scar is pretty red!
I was hoping the scabs would have been off towards the end of the week which would put me just over three weeks post op, as you are seven I will need to be more patient if it takes longer to settle down. I am not good with waiting around, being patient I get bored.
