Ok so, what's happening is as it follows, I go to sleep, either at night or taking a nap in the afternoon, and when i wake up (or i wake up because of "IT") i have a feeling that i'm having a epilepsy attack. It last for around a few seconds as far as im aware, and then it's like i get rid of it and my body wakes up totally this time. Breathing heavily but with a slow heart rate. I've been diagnosed with depression and panic attacks, but this is nothing like it. It gets me so nervous because i've already search for it and i find NOTHING! It started with simply "brain zaps", which i though, ok its fine, maybe its the medication. But it seems to have evolved and now sometimes i feel my body trembling after waking up or while waking up i dont know and then i get like those attacks. It seems to have something to do with my dreams though. Let's say... Im dreaming... and then all of the sudden comes another dream or something weird happens in my dream. If that occurs then my "attack" starts... It's so weird and bizarre!!!!!!! Please i need help, doctors won't help because they say they never heard about anything like it too, and they know that im a patient with anxiety and they say: It must be stress. And i can't describe it better to them... My medication is: Venlafaxina (Effexor); Diazepam. And asthma bombs. Please i need help, seriously... :( Thank you.
Forgot to mention im also taking Mirtazapine before sleeping at night, but it has nothing to do with it since i had it before i started taking it…
What exactly happens during these “attacks”?
Panic attacks are very common during sleep, my best friend gets bad anxiety and she used to wake up from sleep choking and unable to breathe. She thought it was her asthma or something wrong with her lungs, it turned out to just be panic attacks. She took xanax before bed for a week or 2 to prevent the attacks and started seeing a therapist. Eventually they stopped happening.
first of all the more you get anxious the more anxiety attack us I have been suffered from what was bad that your symptoms I also was diognised by depression . So don’t take this symptoms seriously instead of thinking about it do something else that will divert your mind I have done that so you can too
when you describe it as an epilepsy attack, do you mean that you wake up shaking?
Unfortunatly its nothing like that. I don’t feel difficulty on breathing and what happens it’s much like if i was having a seizure but aware of it, without passing out or bitting my tongue or anything like that.
It’s the feeling that i get. And i can’t control my body. If i were to describe it to you maybe i would say a mixture of sleep paralysis with a seizure.
That’s what i feel. And i have panic attacks since i am 16. I am 26 now. Never has happened anything like this.
Im not paranoid like “i have a brain tumor” or i have this or that. My opinion is that there’s something chemical in my brain doing this. Like either for medication or something else.
I just posted here to see if anyone could relate to this because i’ve researched so much and i haven’t seen anyone with this problem.
After the “seizure” i get slightly headaches when im awake.
It’s like i have a hard time getting into REM or getting out of REM. It’s like my body feels at a limbo.
Yes i do wake up shaking without control of my body. And when i regain fully control i see that my heart is NOT fast. So im not really on panic…
I havent had a seizure feeling when waking up but I sometimes do have times where i wake up and then my legs seize, but I can relax them. You dont have to get ‘attacks’ for you to feel physical effects. I’ve been attack free for a week and still have physical symptoms. I once hadn’t had an attack for 4 months and out of nowhere my left face went numb. I went to the ER and it was nothing. I had the same symptom months earlier when I had the attacks. No attacks ensued. so, just because you get physical effects without an attack, doesnt mean it’s any more real than if it were to occur during an attack.
I hope this helps.
maybe you need xanax at night to calm your nerves. have you seen your doctor about it?
Yea. They say it’s stress. lol
Ok, i have the answer. Turns out that i have asthma and in the night time my oxygen wasn’t enough to feed my brain. So there you have it, that made me have brain zaps and seizure like feelings.
It was all bad airflow. I will need to sleep with a mask so my airways don’t get too dry.
In the end it has nothing to do with anxiety and it could only be diagnosed with a sleeping study.
I had to stay one night at the hospital so they could figure it out.
Careful, not everything is anxiety. Anxiety and stress it’s not the answer for everything.
Cheers guys and thanks for all the replies ![]()
