I posted on this earlier, but only one response. Maybe I was not clear enough. Op one was two years ago and so far has been great.
Op two was less than three weeks ago to replace the other hip.The leg on this hip was 1 cm longer than the other, pre op
This morning, getting back into bed.I felt a twinge of pain in my groin - hip op one. Pain is not permanent, only when lifting the leg. .I am able to walk on it with no difficulty.
Obviously, I am worried, and am wondering what may be causing it, Anyone hav3 any ideas?.
Hi tallulah,
I would not worry too much about odd twinges or slight pain. Having just had an operation your movements may not yet be perfect. We can twist hips or make movements without realising, once you are feeling better and walking everyday you will find the twinges etc, will fade.
If things have been altered so that your legs are now the same length, then could be muscles resettling to the correct alignment
Hi: Many thanks for your feedback. I have done a little research, and it maybe just as simple as a groin strain. Over protecting the new hip replacement and too much weight on the old hip replacement. I have started taking ibuprofen and helping the leg as I get into bed, and that is when the pain is felt.
Will post on my progress with this as it may be of help to others with second hip replacements.
Hi Maggie: I had thought about that. I am not sure what the current leg length is. My progress has been difficult due to the set backs in the clinic. I am taking ibuprofen and icing the area, and lifting the leg into bed to avoid any further strain, as this is when the pain is most felt, also, slightly when lifiting the knee. So, I will avoid both for a while.
Many thanks for your reassuring feedback.
I agree with jen and I had my left hip done in January 2018 I too was feeling a little depressed because unoperated side hurt, knee, thigh and groin. The PT said to give it time and I still have a little pain from time to time. I will have the right hip replaced this Friday 7th of September because arthiritis so bad but looking forward to a speedy recovery. My left hip feels 100% better than it did before. Praying all works out for you.
Hi Jen: In my case it is the old op that is creating problems. This may be simple groin strain, and over protecting the new hip. It came out of the blue, this morning, and other than what has been described, thus far, this is the extent of the problem. I shall continue to post and monitor, as it may be of future help to others on the site, going through a second hip replacement.
Good luck on the second hip op, and protect the hip that you had done in January. Ask your surgeon how you can do this, so that you don't have to deal with what I am going through, right now. It's worry, more than anything else,, as I am afraid of further deterioration and yet another replacement.
All the best,
Your whole body suffers after a hip replacement, not just the hip area. If it hasn't settled, see the consultant and have an xray. If he it is perfectly in place you will know it is likely to be muscular and will settle down.
Thanks so much I am so thankul for this site. I am just getting a little nevorous and anxious which I know is natural. My surgeon assures me that it will go much better but the first one once the surgery was over. I was in recovery talking to nurses and just could not feel anything from waist down because of the type anesthesia they gave me or shot to numb everything. I was dismissed same day but chose to stay overnight. I am praying it will be not so bad just looking forward to walking without a can or walker when better. No pain like this either. Take care of your hips we deserve to have some good days without bone on bone.
Tight hip flexors? Try to make sure you lie down completely flat a couple of times a day for 10-15 minutes and stretch your leg away from you. I had this issue a bit and advice from the physio re above solved it...
