As most of you know I'm now 13 weeks PO with my new hip, but injured my other knee on week one and have been completely and utterly housebound for the last 12 weeks!!!!!!
Yesterday was probably 3 rd time I've left the house apart from Dr's & Physio.
Walked for about an hour just gently round the shops etc............omg feel like I've been in a marathon!! The muscles I my bumπ±π±π±π±like I've been horse riding . Ache all over. Headache. Legs hurt. Knee not too bad considering, swollen as β β β β .
Can see this rehab is going to take an age...... So far behind!! Everyone else's recovery π§π§π§π§
I know its so frustrating. Both my knees went in week 12 of recovery from THR. Ive been told by my surgeon that I need partial knne replacement of both knees. I also have the sore bum aching ,uscles. Only relief is in the pool. It might help u in your recovery and strengthen the muscles. Im thinking it's going take however long its going to take. Patience and be kind to yourself.
Gaby - Don't you dare measure yourself by anyone else on this forum.
We ALL HEAL at our own rate I'm afraid, some of us get over the whole kerfuffle very quickly, and some of us are still struggling at 12 months, (Thats me).
The ortho surgeon I saw 10 days or so ago said I fall into a tiny group of people who have big problems, I'm sure you are not going to have anywhere near the same.
My thoughts are with you, as I'm sure many others, don't get to down on yourself, It will get better, I can just see you saying yeahhhh right, but you must believe it, even I am very slowly improving, trying a new heel lift on my right heel to help even me up in my case, seems to have helped.
All those nice muscles you havn't used for weeks is what you are feeling after your walk around the shops.
Hi Gaby, I'm only 3 weeks PO but what I'm already discovering is that any kind of 'over and above' activity i.e. loading, emptying washing machine and then standing to do 30 mins of ironing yesterday means I'm feeling it today!
My bum hurts too! Best buy for me during recovery has been an electric heated seat pad. I use it all day and then take it up to bed on a night and use it under my back whilst I'm still unable to sleep on side. Makes a huge difference to the back pains.
From reading all the various discussions, everyone is different in terms of recovery and I'm trying not to compare myself with anyone else.
Haha you're right!!! My Physio put a tiny lift in my shoe. Seems to help. He says the hip beds in eventually and tiny leg difference just blends in. Mine is under a cm !! Lol
Awww Gaby!!!! You are so strong and beautiful! Please don't compare yourself to others...you have been (and are) so brave through all of these setbacks! I'm paying the price big time for all the time on my feet surrounding the pending birth of our granddaughter. The hospital is huge, the parking structure is huge...everything...everything hurts! The thing that has kept me going is the inspiration you have continued to give me...we can do this...together! Live ya Gaby!
Don't worry, it's not a race, you are recovering at your body's pace, not everyone else's pace.
I can imagine the muscle pain, I had it when I started walking again after the second operation, even though I'm just 21 (ok, 21 for the third time around!!)
Rehab does take an age, even without your extra complications. Take it easy, give us a smile .
Are you kidding me ??? One hour in shops the 3rd time you are out of the house??
with or without crutches, sticks ? or holding on for dear life to shopping cart ?
Oh Gaby, have been there done that, not just once but twice etc - I think it is one of the most tiring things - trying to walk properly, right - straight back, balanced, trying not to limp or shuffle - looking around, then stop, pick up something, put it back and repeat - Was it fun shopping or grocery shopping - = important ...
I know what you mean about feeling far behind - I'd tell you the same - do not compare yourself to others - however, I do the same- so the pot telling he kettle ...
Renee you are funny. I used one crutch. My husband was with me! I bought a couple of Summer dresses and a couple of jumpers. But only half undressed lol.
Just got a couple of items in the supermarket all else online. Used the small cart to wander.
Went to Chiropodist so now have comfy feet.
Came home had a cup of tea and two ice packs lol.
I'm ok today just achy!!
My daughter just bought me a colour therapy colouring book and crayons to help with Sanity issues lol!xx
Glad you got out of the house, but so sorry about the pain and the swelling. Baby steps is what you need. Everything is connected to everything else, it seems. Wishing you more outings and less pain!
