With anything like this I keep a small bottle of liquid antiseptic to hand and apply undiluted directly to anything that looks like this. If you are in the UK get yourself some TCP, cream and ointment versions of antiseptic are no good - apply 4 or 5 times a day, it should start to diminish within 3 days, when this happens still apply 1 or 2 times daily until it is completely healed.
