Hi,
I've for the ladies....I was diagnosed with UC in around December 2014 following food poisioning.
I have since had 2-3 flare ups.
Hi,
I've been on microgynon contraceptive pill from being about 17 (now 33) but appreciate this is not going to work for me now.
Please can you advise what you use / do you still have periods etc?
It's ok the doctor advising but would like advise from someone experiencing the same as me.
Thank you
Carrie
Hi Carrie. i have colitis, & am on the depo provera injection every 12wks . your gp surgery nurse should also be able to provide info on other contraception eg implants that will not be affected by diarrea. xx
Thanks for your reply looloo43. Do you still have periods (sorry for personal question)? I just find myself taking pill all the time with no break which I have been advised is OK to do just because a flare + period is like my double worst nightmare. ;-) x
Hi Carrie. I have been on depo this time round since dec12. periods stopped completely after 2nd injection, but last 18mths have had irreg bleeding (not heavy), but have recently been put on hrt as doc says i am perimenopause, & the irreg bleeding has almost completely stopped. so the irreg bleeding was probably due to perimenopause rather than depo shots. 1st time round was on it for about 7yrs, & periods stopped completely after approx 2nd injection, bliss!! (i am 45 btw) xx
Hi looloo,
Thanks for your advise. I went to nurse last week and die to taking steroids on occasions I wasn't able to have the injection as it can weaken your bones which can also be a result of the steroids so I opted for the implant. So far so good. 😉 x
Hi Carrie. glad ur getting on ok with implant so far. I too have had multiple courses of steroids over last 4.5years for colitis flares, but my doc has made me have dexa scans for bone density every 3yrs. funnily enough my 1st one was the benchmark being the first one. then 2nd one was ever so slightly reduced, but the 3rd one was actually better ! I've been on depo this time since dec 12, but was previously on for 7.5yrs then advised to have a break as the dexa scan was minimally worse. went back on as nothing else suited me. also i changed jobs from being sat at a desk all day to going back to retail, where i run around a large shop floor every working day, so that obviously helped improve my bone density as they say weight bearing activity helps bone density.
