So I'm one month post op today. Feeling really good about progress. I got out of the house for a bit yesterday. Took my cane but left it in the car. So walked most of my day cane free!!! Not a whole lot of walking- into the shop for a hair cut. Into the lounge for a bite to eat. So far today I'm feeling good. - but it's 2:30 in the morning here in the U.S. Hopefully I won't wake up later with some crazy pain.
Well done, you !!!!
wishing you a good night with hours of interrupted sleep -
big warm hug

Wow well done . I can walk round the house with no cane but so far taken just one out with me . Careful you don't over do it .. It's really easy to think hey this is great then be racked in pain and very tired later like I did !
Hi Etta! I'm 4 weeks 2 days post op - US with anterior approach. At 4 weeks I took my first independent steps and am continuing to do more. I can do a few stairs unaided, wash the dishes, make lunch, drive, etc. My newest complaint is when I'm sitting I feel like my bones are pushing through my bottom! Also the incision area seems to be "waking up" sending some discomfort. I'm not taking any meds but an occasional tylenol so maybe I'm just noticing these feelings a little more. So far....slow going but all is good! Good luck to you for continued healing.
Hey Etta, here in SoCal USA, 3 months post OP RTHR, glad to hear you're doing good, I do a lot of walking now, worked up to about a mile a day, that's after running around all day at work. I used a single crutch sometimes for the walks with the dog up to about 8 weeks. Felt safer and still got lots of exercise without overdoing it. You will find out if you overdo it, my leg, outside part of thigh, had some pretty good pain maybe a 6, for a few days when I pushed it too hard, some kind of motion I hadn't done before, didn't take much. Few days rest fixed it. Keep up the exercise but be careful, you're still healing at 4 weeks. Think before you move and take it slow, another month will bring a lot more improvement,
Hey Barb. Good to hear your progress is going well. It's funny- my incision (posterior), healed great. Feels pretty good, but the area at one end , closet to the knee, feels tender if I press on it. There's also an area below the incision that feels numb - not even the entire length of the incision, but an inch or 2. Nothing major just something I've noticed. I did ok again on Saturday with moving. I thought I might be to sore or stiff but was fine - especially since I cut back on the pain meds. I'm still taking an anti-inflammatory twice a day but the heavy pain meds I reduced to twice a day as well instead of the 4-6 hour dosing. I've got some good PT exercises that I think are REALLY helping - quickly. I'll still jump in one of those scooter things if I go to a store. I wouldn't use them pre surgery and sometimes I'd get "stuck". My leg would hurt so bad I'd just stand in the aisle until I could compose myself and start walking again. 😩😩 Happy Sunday!!
Dave, you're doing great!!! I'm not walking anything near a mile but am pleased with the steps I'm taking. Did some walking yesterday-Saturday- and feel good here at the crack of dawn this Sunday morning - my sleep pattern is still awful. Your progress is promising for all of us on the trail behind you. My biggest concern was having some "extra" pain the day after, but all has been pretty good. I still use the cane but am able to take more unassisted steps more often. I think my PT exercises are having a big impact on my improved movement. I see my surgeon tomorrow so hopefully all healing is going well. Happy Sunday!!
