One word to help quit "DIET"

I quit after smoking no less than 2 packs a day for over 40 years. I am a truck driver and all I have to do is light one up as a new situation arises.

For everyone that chooses the excuse "I don't want to gain weight that is why I don't want to quit" I have one word for you that worked for me cold turkey. "DIET" yes that is correct, I will tell you how I did it. Being a truck driver I have to take a medical exam every year for the DOT and during the last one they saw my sugar was to high, I went to the doctor and he told me to go on a low carb diet of about 100 carbs a day. Amazing on how much you can eat and loose weight. Now about the smoking relation to this is the hunger pains I got from the change of my diet I blamed on the smoking withdraw or vice versa not knowing which was causing my discomfort, after the first few weeks I gave the issues no thought because I was loosing so much weight, I lost close to 20 pounds in the first month! I am still loosing weight, when I do get a urge to smoke I tell myself "self .... you don't smoke anymore" and I move on.

Ya know, I feel great now my motivation to quit also helps, my wife smokes, not much but she has COPD and as long as I smoked she would never quit, so someone had to stop first, now I prey she gets the message I am sending and quit her self, I don't think I have to bug her about it, I want her to do it on her own. She has my support.

I hope this helps, all I can say is you can do it and it doesn't have to cost you anything and like me I gained a better life and saved money at the same time.

Hi chistyle well done i also am packing them in cold turkey on week 5 now i will say i am eating more so i have started doing couple of water fit classes a week can you give me some more info on your diet plan and how long did it take for the withdraw ?

Hi Caroline, congratulations on the 5 weeks! Hard for me to exactly say on bow long my withdraw was because I was able to blame that feeling on my dieting. But from other quitting attempts (I had many) I could honestly tell you It took just a couple of weeks, first the chest burning feeling than the flem discharge. (Spitting) which none I had this time with the diet. About the diet. Try a carb diet of staying as close to 100 carbs a day. And that is all I am doing. Down 45 lbs now. Exersize helps a lot, just walking my dog. Good luck and just tell yourself you don't smoke anymore when you get that thought.

Thanks Chistyle will take it all on board i feeling fine keep saying i not a smoker .your doing great with the weight loss i have put on a few pounds but i was a bit under weight so with the keepfit class and cutting back on the carbs i hope it goes to plan thanks again and good luck

I want to stop smoking and I spent £40 yesterday on a starter kit for a long e-cigarette, vanilla flavoured. Unfortunately, it is just not like a cigarette and, this morning, I had to hurry up and get dressed to go to the Co-op for rolling baccy. I hadn't bought any yesterday because I had bought the e-cigarette kit.

I will try only taking the e-cigarette out with me when I go out in a wee while.

I tried the e-smokes and thé pills/patches and all They did for me is remind me of thé réal thing à hundred bucks later. Going on 4 months now not smoking and 45 pounds lighter. All you needs is desire and will power. Don't kid yourself... You can do it!!!!

Good Luck!
