It has been one year ago this week since I had my hip replaced, I was in a wheelchair if I went anywhere I had to walk around, All the Dr. thought it was my back so had lots of tests carried out, but it was in the end my hip!!
For all you waiting to have this procedure done all I can say is it was the best thing I have done, dont wait get it done asap.
I had the Anterior op, and was put to sleep as I have stenosis in my spine, I also had a cell saver so if I lost any blood it was automatically pumped back in, I can honestly say I was not in any pain after,the only thing I found dufficult was getting on and off the bed, but after a few days i had mastered it. I took paracetamol for about 6 weeks 1000 every 6 hours, I didnt rush my receovery and listerned to my body if i needed to rest I did, I was in reeducation for 5 weeks so had PT everymorning and water therapy every afternoon, I took a trip at 9 weeks on my own back to the UK and drove about 600 miles had a wonderful time...I could walk..ypee.
Just wanted to let you know that 12 months on there is nothing I can not do, I swim, I have been downhill skiing at 7 months post op all with no problems.
It is truly the best thing I have done,

anterior op does seem to have a faster recovery time. was it discussed with you which you were going to have? I was very nieve and didn't realise there was more than one method!!😳😡

It's good to hear such positive news, and proves that we all need to take a long term view at least part of the time
Fantastic, what a comeback!!! The same was for my mother, she ended up wheelchair bound and then after surgery was back on her feet in no time.
Encouraging to read about skiing as I asked my surgeon today about this. He said to get on with a normal life, yipeeee for all of us hippies and hippies to be.

. you were lucky to have physio therapy. None given here just a book with exercises. I have asked gp to refer me so waiting.
Hi carol, no I didnt have a choice, but my sugeon was very upbeat and I had complete trust in him, I had no swelling after or bruising, I had my op here in France and they are so good, I dont speak much french either, but a very positive outcome, I am so so happy, it took a whike for me to realise I could walk, took my grandchildren to Florida to universal all on my own.
The water therapy is very good for your muscles, I also had massages as well. good luck with your recovery x
