Hi I'm four weeks after surgery been going really well then four days ago a pain appeared left hand side of the knee, it is sore to touch and I can't put full weight on my leg, Any ideas out there, I'm very disappointed . Jackie
Maybe because it was going so well you overdid it a bit??? It is a very up and down recovery, and hopefully with rest, ice, painkillers and antiinflammatories, in a day or two you will be back to normal . . . four weeks is very early days. . . but if it really worries you, is exceptionally hot, etc get it looked at. . . . Hope it's OK, and probably it is. .
Hi Jackie.
I think maybe you are expecting too much too soon.
I had TKR 3 years ago and it took about a year before I really began to feel the benefits of it.
It is a long hard road but well worth it in the end.
You are going to have good days and bad days with it.
It may be worth metioning to physios if you are concerned.
Take care and keep in touch
Praying for you
Love Sarah xxx
id say its only a hicup dont worry your leg is just objecting to you probably doing to much 4 wks on your doing great just ice it and rest and start again tomorrow you will be fine dont stress
Update I went to physio today not doing any hard exercises til pain in left hand side of leg subsides, it is slightly less sore but I'm disapointed. I am so tired what on earth is that all about? I'm seeing my consultant next week to make sure I'm On the right track. I still managed to get 95 bend but 7 straight. Just want to feel normal.
Unfortunately, I think you are going to be forced to readjust your ideas about the recovery period of this operation . .four weeks is just the beginning of the road. . .Abnormal tiredness, depression, tearfulness, pain are all common to pretty well everybody at this stage unfortunately, If you think about what has been done to your poor leg, I think you will realise that it's bound to be quite a long healing process, and unfrotuantely the necessity to keep it bending and straightening means that pain is pretty well impossible to avoid. Not sure what pain control you are using, but perhaps you need to adjust that a bit . . without good pain control you are unlikely to be able to do the necessary exercises . . I didn't get anything more than paracetamol to begin with, and wasted the first couple of weeks without pushing myself as much as I should have done. It's taken me ages to get to 115 bend, which is still not that brilliant! Hope things get better for you soon . .
well jackie this should cheer you up im 9mths since revision knee replacement and ive got exactly the same bend and straight if i had that after 4wks i think i died and went to heaven you have made me sooooo jealous
Sometimes as scar tissue begins to solidify post-surgery, it can begin to refer pain. Another possible cause could be a sprain of the LCL. It's best to have your doctor take a look at your knee if the pain doesn't resolve soon.
