Ongoing pain

Almost 5 months post right hip replacement. I’m suffering with painful lower back pain daily. Find difficulty getting up and down from chairs still. Trying to walk without one remaining crutch, but i walk with limp otherwise. Is this normal please? Getting bit depressed about it.

Hi Alison
I too have lower back pain and the muscles on the side of my tum. I think its from using one crutch on the opposite side to the replacement. Have you seen your GP?

Best to use two crutches until such time that you are walking strongly and with a normal gait.

See a non McTimoney chiropractor to sort out your back pain.
Cheers. Richard

Hi Alison,
I only had my hip replacement since 3 weeks, but last year in March they found a fracture in my hip and put screws etc. in and I got lower back pain since then. some days are worse than others. But I think that it can take a year to recover fully and hopefully your back pain is gone by then too. :+1:

Hi Alison,

I am almost 8 months post op and have a problem with my lower back, the doctor at my 6 week appointment said there was damage there, probably from walking like a penguin for several years because I was scared of having an operation.. I am hoping being back at pilates will help strengthen it. Do you walk heel to toe as that does help with removing the limp. maybe at 5 months you need to dump the crutch.

Hi Alison, use 2 crutches until you are strong and can walk without a limp. Practise slow steady walking heel to toe at home without crutches if poss. Are you doing yr excersizes?
These will strengthen yr core and hip area. Will maybe help with lower back pain. Otherwise see yr Dr.
Good luck

Thanks for your advice.

Thank you.

Hi Alison
i can empathise with your pain. im 7 months post thr replacement and still have pain in my groin which makes it difficult to even stand or walk. i have been told by the arthroplasty practitioner it is the psoas tendon which is irritated. the advice was to go back yo using my sticks and rest activities for a month. im now at the end of the month and the psoas tendon is slightly better but feel it could easily get irritated. i have had to lower my expectations of a full recovery and consider a longer time line until i feel normal again. good luck xxx

before surgery i had issues in my SI joint..im 6 months post op and still have some issues when i stand…check out SI joint pain..exercises will help..and stretching
