Glad to have found a forum like this - ive been suffering with pain from september 2017 diagnosed gallstones and subsequently had a few visits to A & E department - usual story - painkillers and sent home x 8 !! Admitted over the new year as I was jaundiced and peeing the colour or Iron Bru - CT and MRI Scan revealed a stone lodged in bile duct - two ERCP’s later the stone was dislodged - my operation was scheduled for 24th Jan 2018 but suddenly they decided to postpone it as my gallbladder had suffered plenty attacks ( hello A &E maybe you should have admitted me after visit no.2) so home i went at least pain free - ten days later the most viscous pain in my upper right abdomen the inability to talk or breathe and i’m ambulanced in to hospital - given pain killers and oxygen and treated for pancreatitis and acute choleycysitus given iv fluids and antibiotics and a drain into my gallbladder draining out infection. i remain in hospital two and a half weeks - operation date came and went i am informed my gallbladder has perforated and shrunk from all the attacks - i was sent home two days ago with a bag of meds - i need an mri scan in four weeks to see if my gallbladder is operable as i’m now told because it has shrunk it could now attach itself to other organs - marvellous ! A routine operation that stinks of medical negligence - the upset and anger and frustration doesn’t come close - anyone else suffered shrunken gallbladder ? I’m hoping that my gallbladder can be removed within a few weeks obviously it all depends on what the mri scan shows
What an absolute disgrace that they ve let it get to this point! I agree on the lawyer!!! sounds like your gallbladder should definately go beforw it causes u any more problems! You must be so fed up bless you i dnt no if your in u.k or not but if you possibly can id arrange and pay for a private consultation with a gastroentrologist and go from there! Really hope you get sorted soon x
Never suffered or heard about shrunken gallbladder. You have been thru the mill.
so sorry doctors could not remove it from the beginning. I know how extremely painful stones stuck in the bile duct can be. Been there done that and I was scheduled to have it removed. Much better and releived to have it gone.
i hope you will find resolution soon and be pain free and well on your way to a healthy life. Be sure during this stage to stray on the food diet to contine thru will as less complications as possible.
I can't quite understand how they've seen you 8 times in awful pain, plus a two week stay in hospital and STILL they did nothing substantial for you. what is the matter with the NHS - this is where all their money goes, messing around like this - they could have had you done and dusted the second time round. I can only offer you the advice that I'm sure you've had a 100 times before, and that is don't eat anything which contains fat and leave alcohol alone. I don't drink alcohol at all, but one evening my doctor rang me a few weeks before I had my GB removed and told me not to drink as my liver was being affected. I told her I didn't drink at all and this confirmed even more to her that my GB was defunct. I found eating out was the worst - you don't know what has been added. Sending you very best wishes and the hope that everything will be sorted out very very soon.
yeah the nhs is shambolic ! big 50 tomorow some party i’m not having - i am avoiding fat like the plague and haven’t had a drink this year and won’t until i’m sorted out - so so cross about it all
I too had a bad experience with my gallstones. I was told it was IBS over and over again.
I ended up hospitalised, with a stone stuck and pancreitis.
I ended up having my gallbladder removed. The consultant had underestimated the quantity of stones, which meant 2 operations instead of 1 - both on the same day. Fun day that was
Post-op care by hospital staff was appalling and they expected me to start walking by the next day.
I wonder if there is any support group for people like us? Certainly there needs to be more support from hospitals (pre-op info and preparation, and post-op).
Some words of advice: Don't be afraid to ask questions and keep reminding them of your pain (so they can understand the urgency of your situation). Did you ask them why they had cancelled your operation? Also phone every week to find out if they have any cancellations on their waiting list.
operation postponed because too inflamed to operate which i’m told would make things complicated all my visits to a and e in agony was just treated with painkillers and sent home
i am having an mri on 13 march as they want to see if things have settled down and then decide from there if it can be taken out by keyhole or if it is a complex operation it may be that it’s too difficult to operate as a shrunken gallbladder can attach to another organ that’s what makes it difficult - without a doubt i’ve been neglected and let down x
