Ongoing stomach issues after antibiotics

I have an ano-rectal fistula diagnosed in late may and was put on a week course of metronidazole. Towards the end of the treatment I was having diarrhea and nausea that persisted a little bit after.

A few weeks later a sebaceous cyst I had for over 15 years got infected and I was put on sulfamethoxazole for a week and ever since stopped in early July i've had lingering nausea that comes and goes throughout the day.

Mostly is apparent on an empty stomach. When I do eat I get really gassy from both ends.

I was eating a lot of sugar and drinking a lot of unfiltered beer after the antibiotics but after a week or so I found that that was causing nausea.

Now I cant even finish a 12oz beer without getting sick feeling. Anything with sugar brings on nausea as well.

Im wondering if maybe I have a lot of bad bacteria in my stomach thats causing this?

I began taking Renewlife Ultimate Flora Probiotics 50billion count that I bought at Wal-Mart, but after 4 or 5 days it hasn't improved.

Im thinking its antibiotic related, but unsure.

This happened to me last year when I was on antibiotics and the doctors ran a battery of tests. A gastric emptying test, an upper endoscopy, tested my gallbladder, CT scan of my abdomen and they found nothing. The nausea took months to go away, but it eventually did.

Im just looking for something I can do to quicken the process as it seems these powerful antibiotics really wipe me out  for months.

Yeah, antibiotics are very harsh on the stomach.  Cut out all the junk from your diet for a few weeks like sugar, heavily processed foods, fried/oily/greasy foods, spicey foods, tomato based foods, salty foods, carbinated drinks and ZERO alcohol.  Keep taking the probiotics, drink plenty of water, get plenty of sleep, eat gentle stomach foods and maybe throw in a multivitamin as well.  You should be fine in a few weeks.

Things to eat:

fresh fruit and veggies

lean meats

complex carbs

almonds/nuts

Stick to a clean diet for a while and you'll be back to eating what you want and drinking beer before you know it, hopefully.

Its best to call your doctor. S/he can confirm if its C-Diff which is more serious or if prescribe medications to make your symptoms improve.

I had loose stools and diarrhea since taking the penicillin. They tell me this is normal with antibiotics. Feeling very tired and weak also and that isn't me! Hopefully, my system will return to normal. I was just given the penicillin as a safeguard against infection.
