Only omeprazole without antibiotics? Help?

i am currently taking omeprazole without antibiotics for gastritis / acid reflux. I've decide to take it for 4 weeks, once a day. Is this a bad idea? can i still exercise (running or only yoga)?

Hi Maria,
Omeprazole is a PPI ( Proton Pump Inhibitor ) . It may work if you are sure you have gastritis due to acid produced.
However, if you have got stomach infection due to bacteria, it won’t work. However you may feel it is working a bit till the time you use it. Probably this happens as bacteria reduce (but don’t go away ) due to less acid. However as soon as you stop it, you may feel the problem back in around 3 days.

If the doctor has prescribed antibiotics, in my opinion you should take it with Omeprazole.

In my opinion, there is no problem in exercising. In fact, morning walk, exercise and yoga helped me in reducing my anxiety and stress. And helped me in gastritis at least by not letting it increase ( if not solving it fully ) . Also, my experience is, that lessening sedentary work also helps. Try to sit on your hips ( lesser pressure on stomach ) as much as you can. Or at least don’t stress yourself while sitting and working.

You do not need antibiotics for gastritis and acid reflux. The treatment for these conditions are PPis which you are taking. Taking antacids do not interfere with exercise. I take regular OTC antacids and I have taken omeprazole in the past and have done exercise such as swimming and walking with no problems Doing exercise will help to relax you and distract you from your stomach problems. Your goal is to treat your anxiety which makes stomach conditions worse.Ask your doctor about relaxation therapy; this will help you a lot.

If you have been prescribed antibiotics and omeprazole by your doctor, take both.
