Had my THR six months ago and am pleased with progress - am walking 10 to 15,000 steps per day and having started back playing in my ladies doubles at tennis twice a week BUT still find lying on my operated side uncomfortable after about 10 minutes and cannot go to sleep at night on that side without waking up - does anyone else experience that? I phoned the physio today and she said to give it a massage for about 5 mins each day to see if that helps.
Hi Kathy
I couldn't lie on operated side either until 7 months Post THR. So I know how you're feeling. But don't worry - you'll get there in the end. Best of luck
Marg
That's reassuring Marg - thank you.k
Hi Kathy,
My operated side was sore for months too, annoying isn't it, especially as you seem to be getting back to normal in other things. But just take it easy, it'll let you in the end!
Jean
Thanks jean - so good to know it's not just me.k
I am six months post op and back playing tennis too. Could not have done it a few weeks ago but things are getting better. Have had not trouble lying on operated side for a long time now. I had ceramic on ceramic. What did you have? I guess I am very very lucky when I read the other posts here. It has not been plain sailing and I have had loads of problems on the way.
I believe that massage is a miracle worker! Hope it helps you. Sometimes I think our body memories last longer than the actually healing process.
Standing here reading this and giving my scar a good rub as it's sore today. I'm only eight and half weeks post op and have just done too much walking today! Too much of a temptation to try to get back to normal far too fast in my case and then dropping with tiredness. Interesting that other people's scars still hurt after some months but was thinking about how painful a paper cut can be for quite a long time and then magnifying that by what happens when you have such savage surgery as we have had and it's not really all that surprising. I have been able to lie on my operated side for a few days quite comfortably now - big relief!
You are doing great, give it time....I'm almost 4 years post op with Anterior and can sleep on that side but it's not greatly comfortable.... It may never be as it was, I'm sure it won't....but all in all you sound like things are good......
Sleeping on that side should be your last concern...do massage it some, ice it some, you and all of us went thru Major Surgery with these replacements...
I too experience soreness sometimes which prevents me from lying on my side. It's usually when I have been doing too much. I had op almost two years ago.
Kathy, I'm only 21 days post op so still sleeping on back...but truthfully with my both hips bad I've not had a good nights sleep in years, so I will just be happy to be able to turn on my stomach from time to time.....
Hi you sound as if you are doing well.
As for the operated side its annoying isnt it? Thats the side I favour and its agony to sleep on it. 6 and a half months post op
So it seems that that is normal
Take care
Love
Eileen
