Operation going ahead

Hi guys sorry this is me just posting but it has been manic today with friends popping in to see me and phone calls.  I saw my surgeon this morning and he checked the sores and said they are fine so we said bye see you tomorrow and then when I was dressed and leaving he shouted me into his office and showed me the X-ray again and said he is really concern that the operation is not going to be a success that it is a (his words) million times worse than the other hip, he will do his best but it is really bad.  Now he has already told me all this but I really did not need to hear it the day before my op but anyway he said what do you want to do so I said I’ll take my chances it can’t be any worse than it is just now and he just looked at me and said ok Jacqueline I’ll see you in the morning.  So that’s you all up to date I’m off now to see if I can sleep and as soon as I can I will let you know how I get on.

Big Hugs to you all

Love Jacq x💕💕🙏🤞

Best wishes going out to you

You got this! Just remember to elevate and ICE, Get good ice packs that feel cold. If they don't feel cold demand better ones! Elevate and Ice for the first 2 weeks as much as possible.

Us hippies are here for you. Good Luck!

Thanks x

Thanks Chuck x

Good luck Jacq. Even though its bad he wouldnt operate if he couldnt make a difference. I had completely worn the bone flat on mine and my hip was so stiff it shocked the surgeon how I was still functioning. My hip is great and the groin/thigh pain was no more . Xx

Hi jacq I do hope everything goes well for you tomorrow good luck I’ll be thinking of you

Aww Jacq I am so happy for you that finally you are getting your new op. I agree with auntiebeanie though that he wouldn’t be operating on you if he thought your quality of life was not going to improve. You’ve waited such a long time bless you, keep us posted!! 👍

Dear Jacq

I think that is really awful of your surgeon. Why the hell did he leave it until the very last moment to discus the x rays with you and to then put the ball in your court. That was just so unforgivably unfair and unprofessional IMO.

Best wishes.

Richard

You're in our thoughts and prayers. 💕🙏

Let us know when you're through it and out on the 'other side'.

Big hugs back to you from everyone. 🤗

HI Jacq

You might be reading this on the other side.  I am with the others, he wouldnt do it if he didnt think he could make a difference.  I hope so. Definitely you have to take the chance as you cant go on as you are.  will be thinking of you today.

I also thought that Richard. Very thoughtless and unprofessional.

I am 80 years old and have had 3 stents installed-no heart attack.  My only other hospital problem has been getting a new shoulder-good health otherwise.

Day 1 & 2: in hospital

In the following days cited. I have not taken any pain meds yet

Day 3: Getting home no problem-just followed instructions-now that the hip was done tryng to understand how to organize the house needed changes. Which chair? How many pillows? What to use to get up out of chair? Where to sleep? These would all change as the days went by. I found out what better or worse means. My wife, always my hero, was awesome.

I did the basic therapy for the day and I felt fine. I am walking fine.

That night we got me into our bed which we thought would work well because it is like a hospital bed. The head and foot can be adjusted. No good. (I simply could not use the leg wedge provided in the hospital. It did not work in the hospital as I wound up in the chair every night.) So we decided to use the couch which would keep me on my back. We put some barriers next to the couch.  I slept for three hours and had to get up. Yes, she was there to help.  Anyway it was somewhat of a fitful night.

Day 4:Thanksgiving-The therapist showed up and we went through some extra exercises. I again felt fine.

Sleeping was about the same. I was sleeping during the day sitting up. I used an airplane pillow. I am still feeling only discomfort-not pain. Eating normal. No problem walking.

Day 5: My leg is swelled-the hip and calf about 11/2 /  2 inches larger. We were concerned because no where were we told to expect swelling. So we called the VNA visiting nurse association.A nurse was dispatched. We began icing and raising the leg.. In the meantime I looked on line and found this site which affirmed that some people had swelling-it was a relief. The nurse affirmed it was onl swelling and not a blood clot. Sleeping improved but still somewhat fitful

Day 6: Therapist shows up and we do some exercises and he also affirms swelling is just trauma.

Sleeping still fitful.Walking good. Struggling with swelling.

Day 7: Sunday       Walking well. Icing leg a lot-keeping elevated as much as possible. Doing exercises.

Struggling with swelling.

Day 8: Therapist show and we do our workout-helpful with ideas and knowledgeable about other folks problems. Struggling with swelling. Sleeping a little better but still getting up a few times at night. Sleeping during the day a lot.

Day 9: Therapist shows. Walking getting better-went outside for a walk. Still no real pain just limping along.

While I still got up two times I slept much better-a good 8 hours.  Still struggling with swelling.

I have decided to do this chronologue because It might help. I will be glad to answer specific questions. I will do a complete update every few days. Good luck.

Dear Tnuhr

Glad to hear of your steady progress. I urge you to use two arm crutches until you are able to walk with a good gait and without limping. Keep doing your exercises will also speed your return to normality.

Good luck, Richard

Good luck Jacq. I suppose the consultant should have told you before now that there might be problems.

Stay positive. Dr said my hip had collapsed I had waited so long. Am at week 6 and walking with a cane , going better than I expected. Do the exercises and ice, ice, ice!!! Good luck!!!

Sounds like good acvice. I am working hard at keeping a regimen.  I am walking my circle outside and am feeling good. I will provide an update on my progressevery few days. It is good to hear from others.

I had not thougt about crutches. I am using a walker and perhaps a cane-not sure. thanks for your input.

Hope things have gone well and you're resting comfortably ! 💐

Hi H operation all done was in a lot of pain yesterday compare to my other hip but feeling much better today, in the morning before I signed the consent form he readout what he wrote he said you have a much higher risk of mortality than most the operation is extremely difficult and until I go in I don’t know what I’m going to do, greater risk of dislocation and very high risk of infection, and probably have a big discrepancy in leg length he said do you still want to go ahead I said I’ll take my chances as I can’t go on like this he said is there anything you want to ask me I said no just don’t let me die he said that’s not in my control it’s him upstairs I was like ok that’s fine.  But I’m feeling good today got out of bed and walked along the corridor with my crutches and physiotherapist said I was doing amazing so I am really pleased she said she will make sure he knows.

Big Hugs
