Hi guys, I’ve ordered some l-lysine to start taking daily to prevent outbreaks as I don’t want to be on daily antivirals (I have really mild outbreaks). I heard that this is really good at shortening/preventing outbreaks but I’ve heard horror stories that if you take it regularly and then stop, it causes you to have even more frequent outbreaks as it affects your immune response. Please could anyone share their experiences/knowledge on it please as I’m apprehensive to take it now. THANKS
Hi emily I had my first severe outbreak last november 2019 and tested positive with hsv2. Before taking acyclovir I already started the l lysine supplement and I notice after 2 weeks of having an outbreak it started to heal till time I took acyclovir. Since then I started taking it daily and whenever i feel that im starting to have another outbreak I took double dosage of it and when I got fine I only took one capsule a day. Since my first outbreak I never came back to doctor to take another prescription of acyclovir. I noticed that whenever I forgot my daily dosage and im too stress and tired my outbreak started to show. So I’ll do the same and double the dosage. After 4 months of taking it continuously, last march 2020 I decided to stop taking it daily coz I don’t want to be so dependent on it. So far right now never had another outbreak. I just make sure that I never been too stress and im taking vitamin C daily as my immune booster. I don’t know if it will be the same effect for you. I always have a bottle ready of llysine just in case i feel that ill have another outbreak again.
Hey, thank you so much for your reply! I think I’m just going to take it because it seems like a good preventative! I would rather take this than antivirals because they’re so much cheaper so there’s no harm. How have you found having HSV2 in terms of dating? I’ve weirdly been ok with my diagnosis but I think that’s because I’m not in a serious relationship
Hi emily,
yep just try it and see how it goes. I also don’t want to take anti viral meds all the time so I try to manage it with llysine although my doctor don’t believe that it will help but so far it really does whenever I started to see a sores i immediately took 2 tablets and after 1 to 2 days the sores will just disappear..
Right now I’m still in a relationship with the same guy im with when I discovered im hsv2 positive. We’ve been together for almost a year when I got my first outbreak. there’s no way to find out if I got it from him or from my ex. after we got my result my doctor also recommend him to get tested and he also got positive. Both of us got positive with igm and igg..
